Four fishermen from Mandapam near here were reported missing after they were seeing fishing near Neduntheevu near Sri Lanka, officials said.
Police and Fisheries department officials said the fishermen were seen fishing near Neduntheevu by their colleagues last night. They sent a wireless message to them stating that water was entering their boat,and sought help. However, when their colleagues rushed to their aid, they said the situation had been rectified and they would return themselves, officials said.
The four fishermen,who should have reached shore early today, had not till tonight, Assistant Director of Fisheries, Ravindran, said.
He said they had not reached the Sri Lankan coast.Two boats had gone in search of them.
The sea was rough with strong winds when they were fishing yesterday, and it is not yet known what happened to them,he said.
