The Madras High Court today came down heavily on the way some Trusts were formed and land transferred to it saying nowadays "even goondas are creating Trusts."

Justice N Kirubakaran questioned the creation of some Trusts to get transfer of hundreds of acres of land to it while hearing a case where government land to the extent of 66 acres were registered to one Trust.

Now a days, "even goondas are creating Trusts", he said adding agricultural lands are just shrinking in view of the purchases made in the guise of establishing educational institutions and housing colonies.

The court had on June 29 ordered the Inspector General (IG) of Registration Department to be present in the court for the next hearing on a petition against the registration of the land to the Trust.

As per the orders of the High Court, IG S Murugaiah appeared before the judge and filed an affidavit that Sub Registrar of Ramapuram had been issued a charge memo in this connection.

The judge adjourned the case to July 29 for next hearing.
