Highway robbers' gang busted, suspended cop arrested

Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Surjit Singh alias Pappu from near Dalomajra village in Sirhind area and recovered a country made pistol and three live cartridges from his possession.

Surjit, who was suspended from Punjab Police in 2006, was member of a highway robbers' gang operating in the state, police said.

The gang had robbed Rs 25 lakh from Rajpura, Rs 20 lakh from Mandi Gobindgarh and Rs 20 lakh from Sirhind in the last two months, they said. PTI CORR SUN
