Hurriyat strike hits normal life in Kashmir Valley

Shops and business establishments remained closed while traffic remained off the roads in most parts of the Valley, officials said.
However, shops in some areas of Civil Lines here, and in rural areas of the Valley remained open in defiance to the shutdown call.
The effect of the strike was accentuated in down town city due to the strict security arrangements made for Independence Day celebrations, sources said.
Meanwhile, the Geelani-led Hurriyat has asked the government to remove curbs on his movement so that he can offer Jumatul Vida (last Firday of Ramadhan) and Eid prayers.
