India, Germany discuss cooperation in trade, security

During their Foreign Office Consultations here, the two sides also exchanged views on regional and global issues, a German Embassy release said here.

The German delegation was led by State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office Emily Haber and the Indian team was led by Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai and Secretary (West) Madhusudan Ganapathi.

"Both sides discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and global issues. Relations between the two countries in the areas of trade and investment, security, science and technology, vocational training and EU-India relations were among the topics. The discussions explored the potential for enhancing bilateral cooperation with a view to the forthcoming second Indo-German Intergovernmental Consultations on cabinet level envisaged for 2013," it said.

 

Later, Haber also met with National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon.

In 2011, both the governments had held the first Indo-German Intergovernmental Consultations at cabinet level in New Delhi, the release said, adding India was the first Asian country to have this type of consultations with Germany.
