The police plans to register a case against a woman TV artiste who allegedly cheated scores of junior artists to the tune of Rs 5 crore, after collecting amounts from them as part of a private chit fund business, the police said here today.

As many as 80 TV artistes approached the Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma and complained to him that the woman artiste "failed" to pay them returns.

They said that she started a chit fund around one-and-half years ago and collected amounts from them, offering them higher interest rates, a senior police officer said.

Victims alleged that though she paid returns during the initial months, for the past four months, she absconded four days ago without paying, the police officer said, adding the police is in the process of registering a case.

Further investigations are on.
