Shivanand terms CBI closure report as bundle of lies

Press Trust of India Haridwar

At a press conference here, Swami Shivanand said the CBI report, which states that Nigamanand was not poisoned, is wrong.

He said he would move higher courts to seek justice as he has "ample evidence" to substantiate his claims.

Shivanand also alleged that the CBI did not probe the matter thoroughly under pressure from quarrying mafia.

Swami Nigamanand had died a year ago after fasting for nearly four months over the demand of banning quarrying in Ganga river in Kumbh area of Haridwar.

The death of 36-year-old Nigamanand had sparked off a controversy with Shivanand alleging that he was poisoned at the behest of quarrying mafia that led to his death. However, a forensic report during the CBI probe into the case had said that he was not poisoned.

Based on the report, the CBI had filed the closure report a few months ago which was yesterday admitted by special CBI judicial magistrate Yogendra Kumar Sagar.
