Tuki wants cooperative societies in every village

"Cooperative societies are essentially for profit making ventures that can create gainful employment. I would therefore suggest that cooperative societies must be formed in every village," Tuki said while inaugurating the 59th All India Cooperative Week celebration at Polo Park, Naharlagun.
The week-long celebration coincides with the International Year of Cooperatives 2012 declared by the United Nations and is being organised by the Arunachal Pradesh State Cooperative Union.
Tuki recalled the golden days of the cooperative society during the NEFA days when most of the essential commodities were supplied by the public distribution system (PDS) run by the cooperatives or large size multipurpose cooperative societies.
"Those were the days when essential commodities reached remote and far off places of the state on time and in sufficient quantity," he said and beckoned the cooperative society to regain its lost glory.
The chief minister pointed that the department of Cooperation and the State Cooperative Union had a major role to play in making the state self-reliant. (MORE)
