Two women pilgrims were killed and more than 20 others injured when a bus carrying them overturned on NH 57 near Kakarghati in this district today.

The bus turned turtle when its driver lost control over the vehicle amid foggy conditions, killing two women on the spot in the wee hours, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Sadar) Dilnawaz Ahmed said.

While one of the deceased was identified as Ramaya Devi, who hailed from Darjeeling, the identity of the other was yet to be ascertained, the SDPO said.

The bus, on way to Darjeeling from Vrindavan, was carrying several pilgrims most of whom were from Darjeeling in West Bengal.

The injured were admitted to the Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital where the condition of some of them was said to be critical, he said.
