A woman allegedly attempted to murder her husband by suffocating him with a polythene cover and later assaulted him with a sickle here, police said today.
After a quarrel with her husband, the accused Vanjiammal tied his hands and legs last night and covered his face with a polythene cover to suffocate him to death in the neighbouring Tirupur here, police said today.
The woman also hit her husband, Kannan, with a wooden log and attacked him with a sickle. Hearing the noise, their children woke up and started screaming after which the neighbours rescued him and rushed to a government hospital, they said.
Vanjiammal surrendered to police stating that she had attempted to kill her husband as she was unable to bear his torture, police added.
