A 22-year-old woman was attacked with a sharp blade by her male friend, who was angry with her for having rejected his marriage proposal, police said today.
Jagruti Sawant suffered injuries on her face following the attack last evening. She was admitted to a hospital where she was administered stitches and discharged, they said.
The accused, Mayur Batawale (25), was arrested last night and today produced before a court which remanded him in police custody till September 17.
Batawale attacked Sawant at around 7 PM as soon as she stepped out of a beauty parlour at suburban Borivali where she works.
According to police, the two Borivali residents became friends through social networking site Facebook a month ago.
They then met face to face a fortnight back after which Batawale started following her and began camping outside the beauty parlour. A few days ago, Batawale proposed her for marriage but she rejected it, they added.
