$250,000 Claim Limit Mooted

In tobacco settlement talks, cigarette manufacturers have proposed setting firm limits for smokers looking for industry compensation, banning punitive damages and capping claims at $250,000, the Wall Street Journal said on Wednesday. The New York Times reported state attorney generals rejected proposals which would prevent smokers from bringing product liability claims against cigarette makers.
