500,000 Dvd Players Will Be Shipped By March 1998

The Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association (CEMA) projects that DVD Video player sales in the formats first two years will be more than 600 per cent of the sales achieved by VCRs in their first two years, and more than 576 per cent of compact disc player sales in the same period.

On the software side, the DVD Video Group projects that the escalating number of titles released in 1998 will bring the total number of available titles to approximately 1,500.

Hollywood movies like Air Force One, LA Confidential, Boogie Nights and Lost in Space will be released at the same time as the VHS versions this year.
