Andhra Pradesh Plans Review Of Subsidy On Non-Merit Goods

Andhra Pradesh plans to take a second look at the subsidy element in user charges on non-merit goods like power, irrigation, transport, agriculture and higher education.

The state has thus become the first to try to align its subsidy position with the targets laid down in the White Paper of the Centre. It had reduced the subsidy on power, irrigation and transport to some extent earlier this year. But much more will have to be done if the subsidy reform targets have to be met.

The steps so far initiated by the state were in the form of additional resource mobilisation
