Coir Board To Promote Products In North- East

This, according to Coir Board sources, is part of the board's bid to exploit the market potential for products in the region. Officials said similar pacts are expected with organisations in other north eastern states.
The board has decided to earmark Rs 2 crore a year for popularising the products in the north-east.

The development initiatives in the region were kicked off following a recent seminar organised by the board at Shilong. The application of coir geotextiles, the Coir Board's latest product, has attracted the north eastern states' interest.
Board sources said the development initiatives have been promised active support by the military and para-military forces, the Border Roads Organisation, research organisations and various civil engineering departments, the sources added.
The Coir Board has also opened a showroom at Agartala for stocking coir products and supplying them to other states in the region. The products are to be bought from the registered consigners in Kerala and will be transported to the showroom to be supplied to the marketing agencies there.
