Flying To Europe And America Will Grow At 7.1 Per Cent.

BSCAL

Stating that economic growth in any country was vital for air travel growth, Tim Meskill, who conducted the survey for Boeing, said while China's gross domestic product (GDP) was forecast to grow by 7.2 per cent per annum, India's GDP was expected to rise at the rate of 5.6 per cent annually.

India's strengths are a durable democratic tradition and established rules of business law, he added.

Woodard, who announced the launching of Boeing models of 737 aircraft family and rolling out of its latest 737-700 by the year-end, claimed that the market for 737 group of airplanes is far larger than that of McDonnell Douglas' MD-80 or MD-90 or Airbus Industrie's A-310, A-320 or A-321.

He outlined a plethora of orders adding up to $6.3 billion in new sales of 68 Boeing aircraft to seven countries of which 24 planes belonged to the 737 series.

Another Boeing official, Robert Sancewich, said the new generation of 737s were planes with longer range, higher speed, lower fuel emission and lower costs.

Pointing towards the positive aspects of the 737s being offered to India, Sancewich said their flight deck could be programmed like 737-300, which were already in operation in India, which could lead to tremendous reduction in pilot training.
