In a notice served to the state electricity boards of Bihar, Bengal and Sikkim yesterday, the Power Grid Corporation has threatened to launch a concerted move with the National Thermal Power Corporation to regulate the supply of power from June 7.
While NTPC's dues are estimated at Rs 3,000 crore in the eastern region, PGCL's arrears are about Rs 100 crore.
NTPC will be regulating power supply to all its major defaulters in the country. However, PGCL is taking on only the three eastern power agencies. The first threat from the PGCL was issued by its director (projects) R K Madan on May 17.

The state described the concerted move by the two central power agencies as a `sort of ganging up against non-BJP states like Bihar and Bengal'.
The nature of regulation by the two agencies will be different. NTPC generates power while PGCL transmits it.
NTPC, for example, has quantified the amount of power supply that will be regulated to each of the power agencies that have defaulted on their dues.
PGCL, on the other hand, proposes to shut down some of the power transmission routes in its sub-stations.
