BSCAL

Japan has set up a task force to mobilise capital, technology and industrial planning know-how for the fastest possible development of Indias power industry.

A committee of private-sector which advises the Japanese Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti) on Indian economy has recommended Japanese private sectors involvement in Indian power sector.

It says Japanese private sector should not only supply equipment and funds but also help integrate complex structures and demonstrate integrated planning capability, mobilise local manpower and extend technological cooperation in the fields of generation of electricity and environment protection. The committee also says governments role should be to facilitate dialogue between Japanese private sector and Indian government officials as well as private sector.

Private-sector Japanese enterprises were helped and guided into it by the World Bank with assurances from their government.

The task force a special committee for industrial infrastructure development in India actually is a cell within the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry that represents the mammoth private sector of the country, leaving out almost none of the business and industrial houses as well as financial institutions of Japan.

It has already conceptualised what it calls Japan sponsored mega-power project which will need billions of dollars of investment. The mega project has been submitted to the government of India as well as the World Bank.
