Joshi To Defer Stamp Duty Cut

The code of conduct, which restricts the government from announcing any major policy decision or concession just before elections, is already in force in the state because of the by-elections to seven Assembly seats on October 11. But finance department sources say the ordinance can be issued soon after the cabinet decision since it will not affect millions of voters or have a direct impact on the polls. Though the cabinet meets every Tuesday, no decision has been announced since last week in accordance with the code of conduct.
