Small Scale Industries / Ancillaries In Bokaro Industrial Area

Dependent Units: These are the units set up for the items required by'BSL'. Maximum order to the extent of party's capability subject to mutual agreement as regards price & Other-condkions are placed on these units.

B. Independent Units: These are the SSI units set up for items not required by BSL.

C. Ancillary Units : Further to above mentioned categories a dependent unit acquires ancillary status only after it starts production & supplies products by scheduled delivery dates. A particular unit is accorded ancillary status for specific items after recommendation by a tripartite com mittee headed by General Manager (Maintenance)/BSL and finally approved by Plant Level Commiffee (PLC).

 

Presently total number of such ancillary units is 81. The ancillary units get advantage over dependent units in distribution of order quantity subject to satisfactory perfor- mance as regards quality, delivery and reasonability of price & requirement of BSL on continuous basis.

Based on by products available from Steel Plant a few down stream industries have also come up, similarly some units have come up for processing used materials such as Ingot Mould, Boftom plate, rejected coils scraps from plant.

BSL has provided valuable assistance/preference to the BIADA units for sustained growth of SSI'units which may be used as :

a) Exemption from depositing tender cost, earnest money & security deposits, free of cost testing fa- cilities in BSL Laboratory.

b) Issue of raw materials by BSL against guarantee/indemnity bond.

c) Providing opportunity to match their price with outside parties within 30% above the Al price in tender ranking.

d) Preferential quantity allotment upto 70% of the ordered quantity on acceptance of Al price quoted by outside parties & in case BIADA firm is ranked Al in tender rating - 100% allotment to BIADA firms only.

e) Placement of full order quantity on "BIADA-Only" basis for items where minimum 6 (six) BIADA units are capable of supplying quality material at competitive price.

f) Time to time, extending special order to sick units, to units belonging to SC/ ST & displaced persons.

g) Providing technological support in term of detailed drg for manufacturing & fabrication to items.

h) Convening Seminar; conferences for quality aware- ness, ISO-9000 quality assurance programme.

BIADA firms have been and continues to be a permanent partner in the progress of Bokaro Steel and in course of time has supplied many important items, which used to have been procured either from outside firms or directly imported from overseas.

Major items being supplied are CI & Steel.castings, fasteners, idlers, rollers, conveyor drums gear, pinion shafts, complete gear boxes, grab buckets, rolling stocks, crane wheels, mould car bogies, IBR quality pipe bends, rubberised items such as hoses, silicon rubber seals, rubber lined rollers &tankstoracid line, HDPE bags & sheets, shoes, sodium silicates, foundrychemicals, printing items, structural fabrications including stainless steel febrication.

Liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation (LPG) of economy brought in due to change in government policy has put the Steel Industry against a formidable challenge and quite logically the ancillary/dependant units are bound to face the effect. Gone are the days when ancillaries could have a cocooned & protected life under the shade of a big brother like Bokaro Steel. BIADA entrepreneurs are now facing the same. This is certainly, a deviation from established game plan but not daunted by the spectre of competition, some of the units have already started for newerproducts through diversifi- cation & rationalisation and it is heartening, they are competing in All India forum with well known firms of national repute.

Bokaro Steel in addition to providing assitance for the growth of ancillary industries, peripheral development has helped build up of excellent educational facilities in School & High School level as would be revealed from regular outstanding result by wards of employees & its citizens in prestigious institutions such as IITs, RE Colleges, management institutes and in examinations of public services and even qualifying for prestigious international instituions.
