Sundaram Infotech Solutions (SIS), the IT arm of Sundaram Finance, plans to set up an additional 50,000 sq ft facility in Chennai. The company is also planning to triple its headcount by hiring over 500 professionals in the next 12 months.

The expansion comes on the heels of the growing business demand and a significant growth expected from a healthy pipeline of projects, according to a company statement.

SIS, which has a 50,000 sq-ft software development facility in Chennai, plans to double its infrastructure presence to over 100,000 sq ft this year.

The company, which recently implemented a couple of large-value offshore IT solution deals in the UK and Sri Lanka, plans to target other markets like Middle East, especially Saudi Arabia, Qatar and UAE and also the US, besides strengthening its presence in the UK and Sri Lanka.

"While domestic market will be a focus area for SIS, our major thrust in the coming years will be to target the US and Middle East IT solutions market in the financial services and the ERP space," said J Raghunathan, vice-president, SIS.

"Our inherent strength in the financial services space gives us a lot of leverage in the crowded IT services market. This deep domain expertise is proving to be a clear differentiator and is helping us win offshore IT deals," said Srinivas Acharya, deputy managing director, Sundaram Finance Ltd and chief executive officer, SIS.

The company intends to strengthen its solutions basket this year through technology-based offerings, specifically in data warehousing and web technologies. It will also focus on building high level expertise in ERP consulting and implementation.

SIS focuses primarily on the financial services and manufacturing verticals. Its offerings include development and implementation of software products, consulting and implementation of Microsoft business solutions - Axapta & Navision, data warehousing and business intelligence solutions, web solutions across technologies, network consultancy and management, and facilities management.

SIS' product portfolio includes Sundaram SmartLend, a software for corporate and retail lending requirements, and DeMax, an enterprise dealer management software for enterprise-wide business processes of vehicle sales and servicing and spare parts trading and management.

During last week, Sundaram Finance's BPO arm, Sundaram Business Services, announced its plans to hire over 200 in Chennai and expand its overseas presence.
