CBSE to open office in Tripura after affiliated schools' dismal performance

The CBSE will open a sub-regional office in Agartala amid outrage over the dismal performance of state-run schools affiliated to it in board examinations, an official said on Monday. After the BJP came to power in Tripura in 2018, 125 state-run schools were rechristened as Vidyajyoti Schools, and the CBSE's English-medium curriculum was introduced. This year, while 61 per cent of students of these schools cleared the CBSE class 10 examinations, 59 per cent of students were successful in the class 12 exams. The medium of education in these schools was earlier Bengali, and they used to function under the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE). The state government will allocate suitable land for the CBSE office to strengthen educational infrastructure in the state, Education Department's Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Abhijit Samajpati said. The office will operate temporarily from a building of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, he said. The sub-regional office will provide variou

Serious questions on NTA's integrity, how NEET conduct; demand review: Cong

The Congress on Sunday said there are "serious questions" on the integrity of the National Testing Agency and the manner in which NEET is designed and administered. The opposition party hoped that when the new Standing Committees of Parliament gets constituted, it would take up an in-depth review of the NEET, NTA and NCERT. "I was a member of Parliament's Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare between 2014 and 2019 and recall broad support for NEET. But there were MPs, especially from Tamil Nadu, who had raised concerns that NEET would privilege CBSE students and would disadvantage youth coming from non-CBSE schools," Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X. "I do think now that this CBSE issue needs proper analysis. Is NEET discriminatory? Are students from poorer backgrounds being denied opportunities? Other states like Maharashtra also have expressed grave doubts on NEET," he said. There are also serious questions on the integrity of the National ..

The CBSE will launch a pilot of the National Credit Framework for classes 6, 9 and 11 from the 2024-25 academic session and has invited its affiliate schools to participate, officials said on Wednesday.
