Smartworks, which provides flexible office space, has taken on lease 56,000 square feet area in Ahmedabad to open its new centre as demand for flexible workspace from corporates rises in tier II cities. The company in a statement said it has forayed into Ahemdabad market and has taken over 56,000 square feet of office space on lease at Nehru Nagar in Ahmedabad. The new centre will open in March. Smartworks is one of the leading players in the managed office space market with a portfolio of over 7 million square feet. With expansion in Ahmedabad, the company now has presence in 12 cities. 4 detained for threatening to carry out bomb blasts in Ahmedabad on R-Day

Four persons, including one from Uttar Pradesh, have been detained by the Gujarat Police for allegedly threatening to carry out serial bomb blasts in Ahmedabad city on the Republic Day on Thursday, an official said. The action was taken based on a letter received two days back by the Ahmedabad police commissioner's office, in which the threat of serial bomb blasts was given, the senior official of the city crime branch said. The Ahmedabad crime branch had swung into action after the letter, he said. "The sender of the letter threatened to carry out bomb blasts at different places in Ahmedabad, including at the railway station and bus stand, on the Republic Day on Thursday. Following a probe, four persons have been detained for questioning," the official said. Ahmedabad sees maximum rise in office supply last yr among 9 cities: CBRE

Ahmedabad saw the maximum increase in fresh supply of office space in 2022 among the nine major cities, with more than a five-fold jump to 4.6 million square feet, according to CBRE India. In its latest report on the office market, CBRE India mentioned that the new supply of office space during the 2022 calendar year rose 2 per cent to 50.6 million square feet from 49.7 million square feet in the previous year. While Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad markets witnessed an increase in office supply, the report pointed out that supply in five cities Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Pune and Kochi declined last year. As per the data, the new office supply in Ahmedabad jumped by over 400 per cent to 4.6 million square feet in 2022 from 0.9 million square feet in the preceding year. Not only in percentage terms, but Ahmedabad also topped in an absolute increase in fresh supply with an addition of 3.7 million square feet area last year. Jains take out rally, demand action against sacrilege of Shetrunjaya hills

Hundreds of members of the Jain community took out a rally in Ahmedabad on Sunday, seeking action against anti-social elements allegedly desecrating the sacred Shetrunjaya Hills in Gujarat's Bhavnagar district. Led by religious heads of the community, hundreds took part in the rally and walked for 3 km, demanding action against illegal mining activities, liquor dens and encroachment of government land on the hills. Situated on the banks of Shetrunji river around 164 feet above sea level, Shetrunjaya Hills near Palitana city are home to 865 Jain temples and is a holy place for Shwetambara Jains. Army inaugurates first 3D-printed dwelling unit for soldiers in Ahmedabad

The Army has inaugurated its first 3D-printed dwelling unit for soldiers at Ahmedabad Cantonment, the defence ministry said on Thursday. 3D printing technology uses complex software and a robotic unit that helps in creating a structure through multiple stages from a digital model. "The Indian Army inaugurated its first 3D-printed house dwelling unit (with ground-plus one configuration) for soldiers at Ahmedabad Cantonment on December 28, the ministry said in a statement. "The dwelling unit has been constructed by the Military Engineering Services (MES) in collaboration with MiCoB Pvt Ltd incorporating the latest 3D rapid construction technology," it said. Two African nationals held for duping Gujarat woman of Rs 34 lakh

Two African nationals were arrested for allegedly duping an elderly woman from Gujarat's Ahmedabad of Rs 34 lakh by befriending her online using fake identities and asking her to pay money to get gifts and foreign currency released from Customs, police said on Monday. Nigerian national Gift Olabisi Okafor (29) and her accomplice, Aka Gerard (32) from Ivory Coast, were apprehended in New Delhi on Sunday and brought here on Monday, an official from Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch said. Airtel launches 5G services in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Imphal

Telecom operator Bharti Airtel on Wednesday announced the launch of high-speed 5G services in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The company also announced the roll out of 5G services in Imphal. Gujarat polls 2022: PM Modi's 30 km-long roadshow underway in Ahmedabad

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's more than 30-km-long roadshow in Ahmedabad city, where polling will be held in the second phase of the Gujarat Assembly elections, started from Naroda village on Thursday evening. Gujarat reports 30 burn cases on Diwali, 8 recorded from Ahmedabad: Report

A total of 30 burn cases, eight of them in Ahmedabad alone, were reported in different parts of Gujarat on Diwali night, a rise of 400 per cent from normal days, the Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) said on Tuesday. Diwali was celebrated across Gujarat on Monday in an environment free of coronavirus-related curbs after two years with people bursting firecrackers to mark the festival of lights. "As against six burn cases reported on normal days, 30 cases related to burn injuries were reported on Diwali night on Monday, recording an increase of 400 per cent," Ahmedabad-based EMRI said in a statement. However, the institute did not disclose the cause of burn injuries. The institute operates '108' free ambulance service across Gujarat in partnership with the state government. Fire in Ahmedabad 'chawl' due to crackers, explosions in 5 gas cylinders

A fire broke out in a 'chawl' or tenement in Ahmedabad city apparently due to crackers, causing explosions in five gas cylinders kept in different rooms on Tuesday, but no casualty was reported, officials said. The incident took place in the city's Sarangpur locality in the wee hours. The officials also said as many as 57 fire calls were received from across the city post-Diwali on Monday. "A chawl (old row tenement) with 11 rooms and located on the first floor caught fire that triggered blasts in five LPG cylinders kept in different rooms," said Divisional Fire Officer, Ahmedabad, Om Jadeja. The blaze, appeared to have been caused by firecrackers, started from three godowns storing plastic materials located on the ground floor of the building. "Residents of the building escaped unhurt.
