The AIADMK factions led by former Chief Ministers, it appears, are expecting ally BJP to end the uncertainty in supporting a candidate of their respective choice for the Erode East Assembly by-poll for which filing of nominations commenced on Tuesday. The BJP is not keen on contesting the by-election, necessitated by the demise of lawmaker Thirumahan Everaa, son of Congress leader E V K S Elangovan, who has been fielded now. And with the Tamil Maanila Congress, which contested on AIADMK's Two Leaves symbol in 2021, endorsing support to the K Palaniswami-led faction of the AIADMK, the BJP has tacitly allowed the Palaniswami group and another faction led by O Panneerselvam to either arrive at a consensus in naming a common candidate or test their respective strengths in the electoral battle on their own. Asserting that this by-poll is not meant for the BJP, State chief of the party K Annamalai said "our poll battle is the 2024 Lok Sabha election. We are not under any constraint to prov

Faced with a crucial ideological battle against the ruling DMK, a disunited AIADMK frantically engrossed in leadership tussle as ally, and few disgruntled elements within the party, BJP Tamil Nadu chief K Annamalai hopes to cruise through political choppy waters to ensure the lotus blooms in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. He has set the goals high for the party members, mandating them to perform or give way to talented persons, who may be newcomers, a senior leader in the party said. "Annamalai's recent analogy of accommodating new passengers if some passengers get off the bus, is seen as a warning to the party members to perform. Those working against the party's interest or don't show results may not have a place in the party," says M Chakravarthy, state vice president. It is very crucial for the party cadres to sustain the momentum built by Annamalai who has made the BJP a strong force in the state, he said. The leadership tussle in AIADMK has reached the Supreme Court with the party leader and former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam moving the apex court.
AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) on Friday described the Madras High Court's ruling, that has in effect endorsed his election in July as party's interim chief, as 'historic.' Rival leader O Panneerselvam said the High Court verdict would be challenged in the Supreme Court. As the court delivered its judgment, AIADMK workers burst crackers, distributed sweets and thronged Palaniswami's residence to greet him. Without naming Panneerselvam or his supporters, EPS hit out at "mischievous self-centred" persons". Further, slamming them as "diseases that kill from within", EPS said they were working in support of ruling DMK while the party was slogging to guard the people from the DMK regime's "unruliness". Such elements were a hindrance to AIADMK's whole-hearted work aimed at the welfare of people and party workers, Palaniswami said. "I happily welcome the Madras High Court Division Bench's verdict," EPS said in a statement. He thanked all the party workers and functionaries w
