Ericsson on Monday said it has secured a multi-year NOC Managed Services (MS) contract from telecom major Bharti Airtel. The agreement covers management of Airtel's pan-India network through Ericsson's centralised Network Operations Centre (NOC), supporting 4G, 5G NSA, 5G SA, Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), Private Networks, and Network Slicing technologies, according to a company statement. The company, however, did not disclose the financial details of the order. "By leveraging Intent-Based NOC Operations, we will enable Airtel to unlock wider service diversification to meet customer needs, thereby enabling new revenue opportunities for Airtel," Andres Vicente, Head of Market Area Southeast Asia, Oceania and India, Ericsson, said. Bharti Airtel and Ericsson hold a longstanding partnership of 25 years.

Bharti Airtel and Tata Group have terminated discussions for a merger of their direct-to-home (DTH) business, according to a Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) filing on Saturday. In the BSE filing, Airtel said this was because the two sides were not able to find a satisfactory resolution. "This is in reference to our intimation dated February 26, 2025, wherein the company informed that it is in bilateral discussions with TATA Group to explore a potential combination of TATA Group's Direct To Home ('DTH') business housed under Tata Play Limited with Bharti Telemedia Limited, a subsidiary of the company," it said. "The number of total telephone subscribers in India increased from 1,189.92 million at the end of December 2024 to 1,192.03 million at the end of January 2025, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.18 per cent," the report said. Bharti Airtel on Monday announced two new features in its ongoing offensive against spam, as it expanded detection coverage to international calls and SMSes and introduced spam alert display in ten Indian languages. Airtel said it expects to nullify the growing and alarming trend of spam calls originating and being funnelled through international networks into India by fraudsters amid a 12 per cent rise in such attempts in the last six months. "Following the launch of its AI-powered spam detection tool that flagged over 27.5 billion calls as spam to its customers, Airtel today announced the introduction of two significant enhancements aimed at staying ahead of spammers," the company said in a release. Bharti Airtel and subsidiary Bharti Hexacom have prepaid an additional Rs 5,985 crore of high-cost spectrum liabilities to the government, the telco said on Wednesday. Airtel's subsidiary Network i2i has also voluntarily called and redeemed USD 1 billion in 'perpetual debt securities'. "Bharti Airtel and its subsidiary Bharti Hexacom have prepaid additional Rs 5,985 crore to the Department of Telecom thereby fully prepaying the high-cost interest liabilities of 8.65 per cent pertaining to the 2024 auctions," the Sunil Mittal-led company said.
