VinFast partners BatX Energies for battery recycling, repurposing in India

Vietnam's electric vehicle maker VinFast on Friday said it has signed an agreement with BatX Energies for high voltage battery recycling and repurposing in India. BatX Energies is an Indian clean-tech company specialising in battery recycling, rare metal recovery and end-of-life battery repurposing. Under the agreement, BatX Energies will provide comprehensive high-voltage (HV) battery recycling, material recovery and repurposing services for VinFast India's factory, and after-sales operations, the company said in a statement. The process will ensure efficient recovery and reintegration of critical materials such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel into the battery production cycle. This approach supports resource circularity, reduces dependence on mining, and significantly lowers environmental impact, it added. "This partnership with BatX Energies is a meaningful step toward building a sustainable, circular battery ecosystem in India... By working with BatX, we aim to reduce resource .

Govt's 2nd VGF boosts battery energy storage systems development: IESA

Industry body India Energy Storage Alliance on Wednesday hailed the government's announcement of the second tranche of the viability gap funding to boost the development of standalone Battery Energy Storage Systems. The scheme aligns with the government's ambitious goal of achieving 30 GWh of energy storage capabilities distributed among 15 states with support from NTPC, the India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) said in a statement. It aims to attract an investment of Rs 33,000 crore, fulfilling the country's BESS requirements by 2028. IESA believes that India Energy Storage Week 2025 will further accelerate this initiative by bringing together industry leaders, stakeholders, and investments from around the globe, the statement said. A viability gap funding (VGF) of Rs 18 lakh (USD 21,043)/MWh will be provided to support the development of 30 GWh of BESS capacity under this tranche. The funding will be sourced from the Power System Development Fund (PSDF), with a total financial ou

OTPC, Assam Power Corp jointly developing 250 MW battery energy system

ONGC Tripura Power Company Ltd (OTPCL), a subsidiary of ONGC, and Assam Power Development Corporation Ltd are jointly developing a 250 MW battery energy system, an official said here on Sunday. Under the project, power generated from solar power will be stored in the battery energy system and will be available for distribution through power substations during peak hours. "We have floated a joint venture with the Assam Power Development Corporation to set up a 250-MW battery energy system in Assam. The technology is new to store solar power through a battery energy system for using it during the peak hours or at night when solar energy generation goes off," the official said. According to him, since the concept is new to energy players, the setting up of a 250 MW battery energy system will be implemented in a phased manner. "The battery energy system is just like a warehouse where the power generated from solar sources will be stored in the facility, and later it will be supplied ..

Exide to fund EESL capex via internal accruals despite FY25 cashflow dip

Battery major Exide Industries will rely predominantly on internal accruals to fund the remaining capex for Phase I of its lithium-ion cell manufacturing venture, even as its cash flow from operations dipped in FY25, a company official said. The company reported cash flow of Rs 1,297.9 crore from operations in FY25, down from Rs 1,996.5 crore a year ago, largely due to a sharp rise in receivables and inventory, the official said. Receivables rose to Rs 314 crore from just Rs 13 crore in FY24, while inventory levels more than doubled to Rs 578 crore, exerting pressure on working capital. "The cash flow generation for FY25 was in line with expectations and has lowered mainly due to an increase in working capital, which we look at bringing back to an optimal level in the next 36 months. The operating cash flow (pre-working capital movement) in FY25 was, in fact, better than FY24 by approximately Rs 55 crore," the Exide official told PTI, declining to be quoted. Reliance Industries seeks extension for EV battery-making plant setup

The government has slapped a penalty on a unit of Reliance Industries Ltd for failing to meet the deadline for setting up a battery cell plant for which it was granted production-linked incentives, the firm said on Tuesday. In a stock exchange filing, Reliance said its step-down subsidiary, Reliance New Energy Battery Storage Ltd on March 3 received "a letter from the Ministry of Heavy Industries levying liquidated damages at the rate of 0.1 per cent of the performance security (Rs 50 crore) for each day of delay from January 1, 2025." The penalty was for the "delay in achievement of Milestone 1 under the programme agreement executed with MHI in connection with 5 GWh manufacturing capacity awarded under the Performance-Linked Incentive Scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cell," it said. The liquidated damages or penalty computed till March 3, 2025 was Rs 3.1 crore. "RNEBSL has requested for an extension of time for achievement of the said Milestone 1," it said. The firm, however, neithe
