Shah speaks to Bihar Guv on communal violence, additional forces to be sent

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday expressed concern over incidents of communal violence in Bihar, and spoke to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to take stock of the situation, sources said. The Union Home Ministry has decided to send additional paramilitary forces to Bihar to assist the state administration in handling the situation arising out of the violence. No increase in power tariff, Bihar cabinet approves Rs 13,114 cr subsidy

The Bihar cabinet on Friday gave its nod to a proposal for sanctioning Rs 13,114 crore to provide subsidy to power consumers after the state electricity regulatory commission recommended a 24.10 per cent hike in tariff across all categories of users for 2023-24. The decision to extend relief to consumers was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Making this announcement in the assembly, Kumar, said, "The Mahagathbandhan' government has decided not to put additional burden on power consumers in the state. The cabinet today sanctioned Rs 13,114 crore for giving subsidy to power consumers in the next financial year of 2023-24. The sanctioned amount is Rs 4,219 crore more than the total subsidy of Rs 8,895 crore announced for the same purpose in the last financial year, he said. The Bihar government is preparing to auction mining rights for minerals such as limestone, vanadium-bearing magnetite ilmenite, magnetite and glauconite that have been discovered in various non-forest areas of the state, a senior official said on Thursday. Explorations near Patalganga in Gaya, parts of Rohtas district and Majos in Jamui district found the presence of millions of tonnes of mineral reserves, according to an official document seen by PTI. NTPC plant in Barh synchronises 4th unit, Bihar to get additional 405 MW

A 660-MW unit of the National Thermal Power Corporation's plant at Barh in Patna district was synchronised with the grid on Sunday morning, which is likely to result in supply of an additional 405 MW electricity for Bihar, a company official said. According to NTPC spokesman Vishwanath Chandan, the unit was successfully synchronised at 9.30 am. "The super critical based power project in Bihar has a total installed capacity of 3,300 MW with five units of 660-MW each. With today's development, we can look forward to the last unit becoming operational in 2023-24, Chandan said. The three units that became operational earlier are already successful in generation, and have been contributing over 1,600 MW electricity to Bihar, he said. Bihar has the lowest literacy rate in the country followed by Arunachal Pradesh and Rajasthan, according to Ministry of Education. The literacy rate in rural India is 67.77 per cent as compared to 84.11 per cent in urban India, it said. As part of its efforts to promote domestically manufactured goods, the Bihar government has directed all state-controlled bodies to accord priority and provide price preference to products manufactured by industrial units located within the state. In a circular issued to all corporations and autonomous bodies, the department of industries has asked them to strictly follow the state's 'Purchase Preference Policy-2002' and 'The Bihar Finance (Amendment) Rules, 2005' during government procurements. All departments of the state government have also been directed to abide by the directive, starting next financial year. "The notification will certainly provide impetus to domestic manufacturers and suppliers.
