The Congress and AIUDF have a "relationship of votes" with the Muslim community in Assam and over the years votes have been sought from them by creating an "atmosphere of fear", Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said here on Saturday. Both the parties have a relationship with the Muslims of migrant origin till they get the votes but they have not taken any steps for their development or in the areas where they live, Sarma said at a press conference here. Haryana Agriculture Minister Jai Prakash Dalal on Saturday slammed the Bhagwant Mann government in Punjab over the stubble-burning incidents in the state, prompting a sharp reaction from the Aam Aadmi Party. In his post on X, Dalal shared statistics of farm fires in Punjab and Haryana over the last three days. Four students belonging to a Left-wing outfit were injured after a brawl broke out during a protest held by the BJP at the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) here against an "objectionable" graffiti on Prime Minister Narendra Modi found painted inside a hostel of the university, police said. The incident took place on Friday afternoon near the university main building, which houses its administrative office, they said. "In response to the objectionable graffiti on the prime minister found inside the hostel, hundreds of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters staged a protest at the university on Friday. However, the protest turned violent when four students of a Left-wing outfit visited the protest site," a police official said. A district court on Thursday acquitted BJP MP Ram Shankar Katheria in a 2011 case in which he was accused of violence, overturning the verdict of a lower court that had sentenced him to two years in jail. A two-year sentence could have led to the Etawah MPs disqualification from Parliament. The verdict of the Agra district judge's court comes three months after Katheria was held guilty by an MP/MLA court.
