With the Supreme Court set to commence hearing on a batch of pleas challenging the validity of the electoral bond scheme, Congress leader P Chidambaram on Monday alleged that the BJP has made its intentions clear that it will raise its funds from big corporates in an "opaque, secretive and conspiratorial manner." The BJP hit back at Chidambaram for his remark, saying it is piteous that Congress opposes any attempts made to ensure a more transparent and democratic political funding system. Chidambaram's attack on the BJP came after the Centre contended that the electoral bond scheme for political funding of parties contributes to clean money. Attorney General R Venkataramani told the Supreme Court that citizens did not have the right to information regarding the source of funds under Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution. In a post on X, Chidambaram said, "On the eve of the hearing of the Electoral Bonds case, the BJP has made its intentions clear. The BJP will raise its funds from b

Ahead of the Madhya Pradesh assembly polls, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Sunday denied having differences with state Congress president Kamal Nath and claimed such reports were a propaganda of the ruling BJP. Singh in a statement noted several newspapers have claimed that he cancelled his visits to Jhabua and Khategaon due to his displeasure. The factionalism in the BJP is at its peak these days and to cover it up they are sponsoring and spreading false news of rift among Congress leaders, especially between Kamal Nath and me. Every leader of the Congress is united and determined to defeat the BJP, Singh said in a statement. The Rajya Sabha member further said he cancelled his Jhabua and Khategaon visits as the AICC general secretary wanted to discuss some issues of organisational and electoral importance. There is "no factionalism" in the Congress, he asserted. However, state BJP secretary Rajneesh Agrawal said differences between Nath and Singh were out in the open,

Assembly elections are scheduled next month in five states - Mizoram, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana. Yadav said the Lok Sabha polls in 2024 will decide the direction of the country for next 50 years. Hence, the polls next year are of utmost importance for the people of the country, he said. The country faces several challenges in 2024 and unless the people consider them in totality, they will never be addressed effectively, he said. Yadav claimed the strength of the opposition INDIA alliance was growing day-by-day and the BJP was worried about it. The issues in the Lok Sabha and assembly elections are different an
