Madhya Pradesh polls: Amit Shah to address public meeting in Ujjain today

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will on Sunday address a public meeting in Ujjain and take part in a series of meetings of the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, where the assembly polls are scheduled next month. Shah is on a three-day visit to the state from Saturday. On Sunday, after garlanding the statue of Raja Bhoj in state capital Bhopal, Shah will head to Khajuraho to take part in a meeting of Sagar division of the BJP, party sources said. He will later go to Rewa to address the party workers of Rewa and Shahdol divisions, they said. In the evening, Shah will head to Ujjain to offer prayers at the famous Mahakaleshwar Temple and address a public meeting. He will also address the party workers of Ujjain division. Madhya Pradesh BJP president VD Sharma will accompany Shah during his ongoing visit to the state. Elections to the 230-member state assembly will be held on November 17 and the counting of votes will take place on December 3.

BJP chief JP Nadda to address rallies in poll-bound Chhattisgarh today

Bharatiya Janata Party president J P Nadda will address two public meetings and hold three road shows in poll-bound Chhattisgarh on Sunday, a BJP functionary said. Nadda arrived at Swami Vivekananda Airport in Chhattisgarh capital Raipur on Saturday evening and went to Kushabhau Thakre Parisar, the BJP's state headquarters. "The BJP president held a meeting with the party's core committee members of some assembly constituencies. On Sunday, he will listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Mann Ki Baat' radio programme in Amlidih area here. Nadda will then leave for Dongargarh assembly constituency in Rajnandgaon district to address a public meeting," the party functionary said. Later, Nadda will hold road rallies in Khairagarh, Chhuikhadan and Gandai towns before addressing another public meeting in Pandariya constituency, he said. Chhattisgarh polls: 26 out of 223 1st phase candidates face criminal cases

Twenty-six out of the 223 candidates contesting the first phase of the Chhattisgarh assembly elections are facing criminal cases, and 16 of them have serious charges, including those related to voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation, against them. As per the report by the Chhattisgarh Election Watch and the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), out of the 223 candidates analysed, 26 (12 per cent) have declared criminal cases. Twenty of the total 90 assembly seats will go to polls in the first phase of two-phased elections on November 7. The remaining 70 constituencies will vote on November 17. Five (25 per cent) of the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party's 20 candidates are facing criminal cases, followed by the ruling Congress with two (10 per cent) of its 20 candidates, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) with four (40 per cent) of 10 candidates and the Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (J) with three (20 per cent) of 15 candidates, among others. Senior Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Singh Yadav has alleged the BJP came to power in the state promising to end corruption, but it has proved to be the "most corrupt" government. The Congress on Saturday accused the Karnataka BJP of attempting to destabilise its government in the southern state. Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls: Amit Shah on three-day visit to state

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be on a three-day visit to poll-bound Madhya Pradesh starting Saturday, a party release said. He will visit Jabalpur, Chhindwara, Bhopal, Chhatarpur, Rewa, Shahdol, Ujjain, Indore and Gwalior districts and address divisional meetings, public gatherings and take part in different functions during the visit, it said. On Saturday, Shah will pay tributes to tribal martyrs king Shankar Shah and his son Raghunath Shah near Rani Durgawati Hospital in Jabalpur at 12.50 pm. He will then address a meeting at the Bharatiya Janata Party's Jabalpur divisional office at 1.30 pm, the BJP release added. At 3.40 pm, Shah will address a public meeting at Junnardeo in Chhindwara district. He will then address a meeting of the BJP's Bhopal and Narmadapuram divisions, it said.
