Gehlot alleges BJP govt ignores inaugurating projects initiated by Cong

Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday alleged that the current BJP government in the state is holding back the work done by his government and is not inaugurating them. "The BJP government is holding back the work of our government to take credit," Gehlot said in a statement on 'X'. He claimed the Congress government had opened institutions with professional courses to provide new opportunities for the new generation, but their progress has been held back after the new government came. He said the new building of the Haridev Joshi University is ready in Dahmi Kalan, Jaipur, but it is not being shifted there from Khasa Kothi. "Our government had approved the recruitment of academic and non-academic staff in the university, but the recruitment has not been done yet," he said. The same situation is more or less with Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Law University, which is also being run from the education complex instead of its new building, he alleged. "Why are these universiti

BJP manipulating electoral roll in New Delhi seat, alleges Kejriwal

AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission, alleging that the BJP has manipulated the electoral roll in the New Delhi assembly constituency from where he is contesting the upcoming elections. Kejriwal alleged that people associated with the BJP applied to add 13,000 new voters in the electoral roll and they sought to cancel 5,500 voter entries to "influence" the voting in its favour. The former Delhi chief minister visited the Election Commission (EC) on Thursday to lodge a complaint against these alleged malpractices. Addressing the media after meeting EC officials, Kejriwal said, "In the past 22 days, 5,500 applications have been received for deletion of voter names in the New Delhi constituency. There are about one lakh voters in this constituency, meaning applications to remove 5.5 per cent of the electorate have been filed in just 22 days." "This raises serious concerns, as when the Election Commission contacted some of these people

World's worst tax regime: Congress attacks govt over GST rationalisation

The opposition Congress on Thursday called India's GST the world's worst such regime, accusing the government of being interested only in imposing new levies under the cover of rationalisation. The country has reached a point where the middle class is propping the government's tax revenue because corporates are not paying as much tax revenues due to a downturn in business, claimed party spokesperson Rangarajan Mohan Kumaramangalam here. Calling the present system tax terrorism, the Congress leader hoped Prime Minister Narendra Modi will rectify the faulty GST system. We have a regime that has created one of the worst GST (Goods and Services Tax) systems in the whole world. In about 50 countries, there is a tax collection system equivalent to GST. But nobody has such complications which are put in our GST system, he said. Just last month, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman again tried to complicate GST even more by putting three different taxes on three different forms of popcorn,

Oppn slams Centre's move to redesignate Chandigarh's adviser as chief secy

The AAP, Congress and SAD on Wednesday slammed the Centre for its decision to re-designate the post of adviser to the Chandigarh administrator as the chief secretary, dubbing it as a "direct attack on Punjab's legitimate claim over the Union Territory". The Union Home Ministry has rechristened Chandigarh adviser's post as chief secretary. The charge of the adviser to the UT administrator was given to a senior IAS officer from the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre. The Punjab governor holds the charge of the UT Chandigarh administrator. Chandigarh is the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana. Punjab's ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) strongly condemned the Centre's move, claiming it once again "exposes the anti-Punjab attitude" of the Central government. It is an attempt to weaken Punjab's claim over Chandigarh, claimed AAP leader Neel Garg. "The appointment of a chief secretary is meant for a state. Chandigarh is not a state, nor does it have a chief mini
