About 250 to 300 militants are present at launchpads across the border "waiting to infiltrate" Jammu and Kashmir, a top BSF officer said on Saturday. The officer, however, added that security forces were alert and would foil any cross-border infiltration attempts. "There are intelligence inputs that 250-300 militants are waiting at launchpads, but we and the Army have dominated all the vulnerable patches and are alert," Inspector General, BSF, Ashok Yadav told reporters in Pulwama district of south Kashmir. He said the brave jawans of the BSF and Army were alert in the border areas and would foil any infiltration attempts. We are confident of foiling any infiltration bid, Yadav added. He said the connect between the security forces and the people of Kashmir has increased over the last few years. If people cooperate with us, we can take developmental activities forward in a better way, he said.

BSF Special Director General, Western Command, Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, on Monday said that a total of 95 drones, mostly from Punjab, have been recovered this year. He added that many steps, including increasing troops deployment and conducting vulnerability mapping, have been taken to prevent smuggling of narcotics and weapons from across the border. The Western Command of the Border Security Force (BSF) is responsible for effective border management on the India-Pakistan border with five frontiers Kashmir, Jammu, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat. Inspector General (IG) of the BSF D K Boora affirmed on Tuesday that the force successfully maintained peace along the International Border (IB) in the Jammu frontier and said no infiltration was reported along the border with Pakistan in the past year. A BSF personnel was injured in unprovoked firing by the Pakistani Rangers along the International Border (IB) in the Ramgarh sector of Samba district on early Thursday, a senior official said. The firing targeting Border Outposts in the district is the third ceasefire violation in 24 days by the Pakistani Rangers along the IB on the Jammu frontier. The Border Security Force (BSF) has undertaken a unique experiment of installing beehives on the India-Bangladesh border fence in West Bengal to stop instances of cutting the hedge for cattle smuggling and other crimes, besides generating livelihood for the locals. The first-of-its kind initiative was launched recently by the BSF's 32nd battalion in the border areas of Nadia district with an aim of ensuring border security and helping the local populace through apiculture, a senior officer said. India and Bangladesh share a 4,096-km frontier, with West Bengal accounting for about 2,217 km. The Ayush ministry has been roped in by the BSF for the project. The ministry has provided the border-guarding force with the beehives and required expertise to fix those on the alloy-made "smart fence". Repeated calls and messages to the Border Security Force (BSF) for an official comment on the incident in the Arnia area of R S Pura sector went unanswered. According to the sources, a group of more than 20 people with a herd of bovine animals and accompanied by three Pakistan Rangers personnel entered the Indian territory around noon following which a BSF jawan fired two warning shots. There was no retaliation from the other side, the sources said, adding that the people returned to the Pakistani side. At least five people, including two BSF personnel, were injured when villagers attacked a border outpost in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district, officials said on Monday. The incident took place at Umsyiem village near Dawki town, 100 km south of the state capital, on Sunday night after the border guards seized some clothes allegedly meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the situation in the area close to the international border is under control and the state government is keeping a close watch on the development.
