Barometers trade with modest losses; Nifty regains 11,000 mark

The market was trading with modest losses in mid-afternoon trade. At 14:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 242.48 points or 0.66% at 36,728.61. The Nifty 50 index was down 64.65 points or 0.58% at 11,004.75. The Nifty regained 11,000 mark after slipping below that level in morning trade.

Himachal to grow at 7.3 pc in FY'19: Economic Survey

Himachal Pradesh is expected to grow at a higher rate of 7.3 per cent in 2018-19 compared to 6.5 per cent in the previous fiscal, according to the Economic Survey tabled in Assembly Friday. The per capital income of the state increased by Rs 16,257 to Rs 1,76,968 in 2018-19, the Survey presented by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur showed. The state Budget for 2019-20 will be presented on Saturday. The survey pegged the economic growth rate for 2018-19 at 7.3 per cent, highest in three years. The growth rate for 2017-18 was 6.5 per cent, and 7 per cent for 2016-17. The gross state domestic product (GSDP) in 2018-19 is projected at Rs 1,51,835 crore. Earlier, the GSDP at current prices in 2017-18 increased to Rs 1,36,542 crore from Rs 1,25,122 crore in 2016-17. The agriculture sector accounts for about nine per cent of the total GSDP, the survey said. PSBs identified 54 intl operations for rationalisation by mid-Jan: Minister

As many as 54 overseas operations were identified for rationalisation, while 29 have been rationalised for cost efficiencies, as of January 15, this year, the Parliament was informed Friday. Banks pursue rightsizing and rationalisation of their branch network and other operations for cost efficiency and synergy benefits, and invest in and monetise non-core assets as per business strategy, Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla told the Lok Sabha in a written reply. The minister said a reforms agenda based on recommendations by whole time directors and senior executives of public sector banks (PSBs) was referred by government to PSBs in January 2018 for appropriate action as per approval of bank boards. "As per information furnished by PSBs, 54 overseas operations were identified for rationalisation and as of January 15, 2019, 29 overseas operations have been rationalised for cost efficiencies and synergies in overseas markets," the minister said.
