About 30 e-mail bomb threats have been received in Chennai in the last one month, including to the one to PTI office here on Friday and all of them have turned out to be hoax, police said. The bomb threat to the office of the country's premier news agency located at Kodambakkam was sent through email and currently investigation was underway to trace the sender, a senior police official said. Initially a police team arrived at the PTI office and evacuated the staff present there. Later a police sniffer dog squad and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) conducted a thorough check in the premises and nothing suspicious was found, police said. Preliminary investigation revealed that the sender had issued the threat through a fake email ID, to the DGP office, the official said. IT company GlobalLogic has plans to increase its headcount in India by 20 per cent this year, the company said on Thursday. An Air India Colombo-Chennai flight carrying 158 passengers suffered a bird hit on Tuesday, forcing the airline to cancel its return journey, airport authorities said. The aircraft landed safely, and all the passengers were safely disembarked from the plane, they said. The bird hit was detected after it touched down at the airport here, the authorities added. The aircraft has been grounded, and extensive checks were carried out by the Air India engineers and the airline officials cancelled its return journey due to the incident, they said. The airliner arranged another aircraft for 137 passengers who later left for Colombo, they said.

Nine migrant workers died after an under-construction building collapsed at the Ennore thermal power station here on Tuesday, police said. Chennai received intense overnight rain, and there was a cloud burst over Manali, a northern neighbourhood of the city, Regional Meteorological Centre said. Some flights scheduled to arrive at the Chennai airport were diverted to Bengaluru, according to airport authorities. Nagaland Governor La Ganesan died on Friday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai, a Raj Bhavan official said. He was 80. Ganesan was undergoing treatment at the ICU of the hospital for the past few days and he died on Friday night, the Kohima Raj Bhavan PRO said. On August 8, Ganesan had collapsed at his home in Chennai and sustained a head injury, sources said. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors admitted him to the ICU to undergo intensive monitoring and treatment. Ganesan was appointed the 21st governor of Nagaland on February 12, 2023 and he assumed office on February 20 that year.
