Indicates panic over Adani row: Congress on special session of Parliament

The Congress on Thursday said that the government announcing a special session of Parliament indicated that it is in "panic" over fresh allegations against the Adani Group and claimed that it was looking to manage the news cycle with the move. Asked about the government announcing the five-day special session in September and what it indicated, Gandhi said, "It's an indication of a little panic same type of panic that happened when I spoke in Parliament house, panic that suddenly made them revoke my Parliament membership." "So, I think, it is panic because these matters are very close to the prime minister and whenever you touch the Adani matter, the prime minister gets very uncomfortable and very nervous," he said at a press conference here. Reacting to the development, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, in a post on X, said the demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the allegations against the Adani Group, however, will continue to resonate inside and .

BJP boycotts MCD House, Cong councillor objects it being on Raksha Bandhan

Members of the opposition BJP boycotted the meeting of the AAP-led municipal House on Thursday while a Congress woman councillor objected to the session being called on the last day of the month and on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi during the House said "we celebrate our festivals, but we also know our duties". She took a jibe at the BJP and said "people cannot run away from their responsibilities in the name of a festival". She also asserted that the opposition should not try to give it a political colour. An AAP member said the BJP councillors not attending the meeting of the House "was a matter of shame" as he accused them of shying away from their duties in the name of Raksha Bandhan. The Delhi BJP on August 29 had announced that if the House was held on the day of Raksha Bandhan, its members will not attend it and alleged that it amounted to "harassment" of municipal employees. The festival this year has fallen on both August 30 and 31. "If the A

'INDIA' bloc aims to promote interests of some families: BJP slams oppn

The BJP on Thursday slammed the opposition INDIA bloc as a "selfish alliance" aimed at promoting and protecting the interests of families at the helm of its member parties. With 28 opposition parties meeting in Mumbai to give concrete shape to their agenda against the BJP, the ruling party's spokesperson Sambit Patra said the Congress' "missile" will never launch as it has no fuel. The BJP's Chandrayaan will successfully land for a third time in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls as it is fuelled by development, he told reporters, drawing an analogy with the country's historic lunar exploration mission. "The CMP (common minimum programme) being discussed in the INDIA alliance is, in fact, all about having "corruption's maximum profit" as all these parties together represent scams worth over Rs 20 lakh crore," he alleged. Their other aim is to deliver a blow to the stable and pro-development dispensation running under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, he added. Patra said the ...

Modi govt weaponising Aadhaar to deny social welfare benefits: Congress

The Congress on Wednesday accused the government of "weaponizing" Aadhaar and technology to deny the most vulnerable citizens their social welfare benefits and demanded release of payments due to MGNREGA workers. The opposition party's attack came after the rural development ministry said the progress of Aadhaar-based payment system has been reviewed and the mixed route of wage payment has been extended till December 31 or till further order. In a statement, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said the extension has been given for the fifth time. This has become inevitable because despite four extensions, 41.1 per cent of the total 26 crore job card holders still remain ineligible for this mode of payment, he said. The government had initially ruled out any more extensions as the fourth extension ends on August 31, saying that only 18.3 per cent active workers will become ineligible, he said. Ramesh alleged that with five state polls around the corner and the widespread outr

Does Congress require Rahul to break morale of Indian forces: BJP

The BJP on Wednesday flagged a 2008 MoU between the Congress and Chinese Community Party to target Rahul Gandhi, asking if the agreement required him to work against India's interests and to hurt the morale of Indian forces. BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia's attack came hours after Gandhi reiterated his charge that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assertion during the early weeks of the Ladakh standoff that China had not captured any part of Indian territory was an "absolute lie". "The whole of Ladakh knows that China has usurped our land," Gandhi told reporters. Hitting back, Bhatia said China captured over 43,000 sq km of Indian land when Jawaharlal Nehru was prime minister and asked if Gandhi believed the stalwart Congress leader and his great grandfather was a "traitor". The term 'gaddar' (traitor) was used by Gandhi recently for those who "gave away a part of Bharat Mata" to China, the BJP leader noted. Gandhi should disclose the details of the MoU signed between the Congress and
