Congress's top leadership involved in corruption linked to 'land grab': BJP

The BJP on Monday alleged that the entire top leadership of the Congress is involved in corruption relating to land transactions and suggested they should resign on moral grounds after being "exposed" BJP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi's sharp attack on the Congress came after a trust linked to its president Mallikarjun Kharge's family withdrew its request for the allotment of five acres of civic amenity site in Bengaluru to set up a 'Multi-Skill Development Centre, Training Institutes and Research Centre'. The move by Congress president Kharge's son Rahul Kharge, who heads the trust, comes close on the heels of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's wife Parvathi returning the 14 sites to the Mysuru Urban Development Authority after the Lokayukta police registered a case against Siddaramaiah, his wife and brother-in-law. Trivedi said these decisions were triggered by adverse CAG reports and legal proceedings, and amounted to a virtual admission that the transactions were

Make in India has simply become 'Fake in India': Congress' Jairam Ramesh

The Congress on Monday alleged that the objectives spelt out by the Modi government at the time of launch of 'Make in India' have turned out to be "jumlas", and that 'Make in India' has simply become "Fake in India". Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh also said that in the last decade economic policy making has been far from being stable, predictable and sensible. "When he announced 'Make in India' in 2014 with his usual hype and hoopla, the non-biological PM set out four objectives. Ten years later, a quick status check: Jumla One: Increase the growth rate of Indian industry to 12-14% per year. Reality: Since 2014, annual growth rate for manufacturing has averaged around 5.2%," Ramesh said in a post on X. "Jumla Two: Create 100 million industrial jobs by 2022. Reality: The number of manufacturing workers fell from 51.3 million in 2017 to 35.65 million in 2022-23. Jumla Three: Increase the share of the manufacturing sector to 25% of GDP by 2022, and ..

Cong on SP's bypoll snub: Ticket discussions ongoing, possibilities ahead

Congress strategists on Sunday said discussions on ticket distribution are ongoing with the Samajwadi Party and there are "possibilities ahead", days after its ally declared candidates for six of the 10 Uttar Pradesh assembly seats where bypolls are scheduled. The SP had announced candidates for six of the 10 Uttar Pradesh assembly seats after the Congress lost the assembly polls in Haryana. The Congress has been demanding five seats in the bypolls for which the schedule is yet to be announced. Congress national general secretary and Uttar Pradesh in-charge, Avinash Pandey told PTI, "If the results do not meet our expectations, it is natural for disappointment to arise among our workers and leaders. However, we are committed to our objectives in UP - the era of jungle raj must come to an end." A Congress worker said the loss in Haryana has empowered the SP to declare candidates for six seats in the state. Despite this setback, Pandey emphasised that discussions regarding ticket ..

Baba Siddique's murder shocking, shameful, says NCP (SP), Congress

The opposition NCP (SP) and Congress in Maharashtra on Sunday said the murder of NCP leader and former minister Baba Siddique was shocking and shameful for the state and claimed there was anarchy in Mumbai. If a leader from the ruling alliance is not safe, how can the government keep the common man safe? NCP (SP) state president Jayant Patil asked. In a statement, Patil also noted that earlier a BJP MLA in the state had opened fire in a police station while a former corporator was killed during a Facebook live session. The Congress demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde over Siddique's murder. Baba Siddique (66) was waylaid by three men at Kher Nagar in Mumbai's Bandra area just outside his MLA son Zeeshan Siddique's office and shot at on Saturday night. Serious indictment of crumbling law & order: Cong on Baba Siddique killing

The Congress on Saturday said the killing of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique is a serious indictment of the "crumbling" law and order situation in Maharashtra and demanded a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident. Former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique was shot dead by three men in Mumbai's Bandra area on Saturday. Two of the assailants have been arrested, according to officials. The shocking incident prompted the opposition to question the law and order situation in the state, where assembly elections are expected to be held next month. In a post on X, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the tragic demise of Siddique is shocking beyond words. "In this hour of grief, I offer my deepest condolences to his family, friends and supporters," he said. RSS wants to make country uniform, won't succeed: Cong on Bhagwat's speech

The Congress slammed the RSS after Mohan Bhagwat's annual Vijayadashami address on Saturday, alleging that the organisation wants to make the country uniform and asserting that it will not succeed in its plan. Addressing the Vijayadashami rally of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Nagpur, Bhagwat criticised "cultural Marxists and woke people", accusing them of undermining education and culture, promoting conflict and disrupting social cohesion. He said India has become stronger and more respected in the world with enhanced credibility in the last few years but sinister conspiracies are testing the country's resolve. Asked about Bhagwat's address, the Congress's media and publicity department head, Pawan Khera, said the RSS chief seems very confused and wondered whether he is in favour of diversity or opposed to it. "Whether he is opposing or supporting it, diversity is here. They have been trying to change it but they cannot change it," Khera said, hitting out at the RSS. "

Analysing Haryana Assembly poll loss, booth wise report sought: Kharge

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday said the party was analysing the Haryana Assembly poll results, and has sought a booth wise report to determine what led to the defeat. He said his party is paying special attention to ascertain what led to Haryana loss, keeping forthcoming elections in mind, but ruled out the possibility of this result having any impact on the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly election. "We are doing the analysis, along with Rahul Gandhi and other leaders I have held a meeting a couple of days ago to analyse and we are getting booth wise reports. How much fault lies with our workers, what is the role of our leaders and what happened, on all that we are getting report booth wise, based on it we will analyse and decide on further course of action," Kharge said. Speaking to reporters here, the Congress leader said the party is paying special attention to it as the entire country was of the opinion that Congress will win in Haryana, and no one including ...

Injustice to K'taka in tax devolution, we will fight it out: DK Shivakumar

Alleging that the Centre has done injustice by allocating less funds to Karnataka in the tax devolution, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Saturday said that the Congress government in the state would fight it out. Shivakumar, also the state Congress chief, attacked BJP MPs and union ministers from the state for remaining silent on the issue and termed it "shameful." "Injustice has happened to Karnataka. They have given more to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. We were given less than even Andhra Pradesh, which doesn't contribute much in tax. We will fight and protest this in the days ahead," Shivakumar said. Speaking to reporters here, he said, "We will formulate a programme to fight for - our tax, our right". "Why have BJP MPs and Central ministers not raise their voices? Despite having five Central ministers from the state, including Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, they remain silent even though injustice is happening to the state. This is shameful," he said. Remark against PM Modi: SC to hear Shashi Tharoor's plea in defamation case

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday a plea of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor against a Delhi High Court verdict that refused to quash defamation proceedings against him for his alleged "scorpion on Shivling" remark targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. While hearing Tharoor's plea on September 10, the apex court had stayed the proceedings before a trial court in the defamation case filed against the Congress MP. As per the cause list of October 14 uploaded on the apex court website, a bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and SVN Bhatti is slated to hear Tharoor's plea. Congress has to take everyone along to defeat BJP: AIMIM chief Owaisi

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has said that 'secular' parties used to blame him for causing a split in anti-BJP votes in elections, but how did Congress lose in Haryana though the AIMIM did not field candidates? In a veiled reference to Congress, he said the "old party" has to take everyone along to defeat the BJP. "How did they (BJP) win (Haryana)? I was not there. Otherwise, they would have said 'B Team'... They lost there. Now, you tell me, they lost because of whom?," he said, addressing a public meeting at Vikarabad in Telangana on Friday night. "I would like to tell the old party. Understand what I am saying. You have to take everyone along to defeat Modi. You will not be able to do anything alone," he said. The BJP clinched a stunning hat-trick win in Haryana, overcoming anti-incumbency and dashing Congress' hopes of a comeback. The saffron party won 48 of the 90 assembly seats in Haryana, well above the simple majority mark of 46.

The National Conference (NC)-Congress alliance Friday staked the claim to form government in Jammu and Kashmir as chief minister-designate Omar Abdullah called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha here. During his meeting with Sinha, Abdullah presented the letters of support from the coalition partners, hours after Congress extended its support to the NC vice president. Abdullah was unanimously elected as the leader of NC legislature party on Thursday, paving the way for his second term as the chief minister of J-K. His first tenure as the chief minister was also as the head of the NC-Congress coalition government from 2009 to 2014. The NC won 42 of the 90 seats for which elections were held in three phases with the alliance partner Congress bagging six seats. Although the two parties have a majority in the 95-member House, four Independents and the lone AAP MLA have also extended their support to the NC.
