Tomato Flu not related to SARS-CoV-2, Centre sent advisory to states

Centre has sent an advisory to states on HFMD (Hand Foot & Mouth Disease), commonly known as Tomato Flu, stating that it's a self-limiting illness targeting mostly young children aged 1-10 years and immune-compromised adults and no specific drug exists to treat it.The advisory further mentioned that although the Tomato Flu virus shows symptoms similar to other viral infections (fever, fatigue, body aches & rashes on the skin); the virus is not at all related to SARS-CoV-2, monkeypox, dengue, and/or chikungunya.The best prevention is the maintenance of proper hygiene & sanitization of the surrounding. Isolation should be followed for 5-7 days from the onset of any symptom to prevent the spread of infection to other children or adults.Tomato Flu was first identified in Kollam, Kerala on May 6, 2022. Delhi sees 50% jump in daily Covid cases at 959, records 9 deaths

Delhi on Tuesday recorded an over 50 per cent rise in daily Covid cases to 959 while nine people died due to the viral disease, according to data shared by the city health department. However, the test positivity rate declined to 6.14 per cent, as the fresh cases came out of 15,631 tests conducted the previous day, the department said in its latest bulletin. With the fresh cases and fatalities, Delhi's infection tally increased to 19,95,407 and the death toll to 26,436, it said. On Monday, Delhi had reported 625 fresh COVID-19 cases and seven deaths, while the positivity rate stood at 9.27 per cent. The national capital on Sunday had reported 942 cases with a positivity rate of 7.25 per cent. A day before, it logged 1,109 cases with a positivity rate of 11.23 per cent, and nine fatalities. Maharashtra logs 1,910 Covid-19 cases, 7 deaths; active tally up to 12,355

Maharashtra on Tuesday reported 1,910 new COVID-19 cases, an increase of 727 from a day ago, while seven more patients died due to the infection and the active tally crossed the 12,000-mark in the state, said the health department. With these additions, the tally of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra jumped to 80,87,476, while the death toll increased to 1,48,203, said the department in a bulletin. A day before, the state had reported 1,183 coronavirus cases and one death linked to the infection. As per the bulletin, of the total new cases, the highest 1,355 were from the Mumbai administrative circle, followed by Pune (199), Nagpur (86), Nashik (60), Kolhapur (55), Akola (23), Latur (20) and Aurangabad (12) circles. An administrative circle consists of multiple districts. The Mumbai circle recorded three coronavirus-related deaths in the last 24 hours, the Kolhapur circle two and Nashik and Nagpur circles one each, said the bulletin. Mumbai logs 832 new Covid-19 cases, 2 deaths; active tally rises to 6,269

Mumbai on Tuesday reported 832 new coronavirus cases, up from nearly 600 registered a day ago, while two more patients succumbed to the infection in the city, the local civic body said. With these additions, the overall COVID-19 tally rose to 11,39,773, while the death toll increased to 19,675, said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in a bulletin. The city reported 240 more cases as compared to Monday, when it added 592 patients, but no death linked to the viral infection. For the fourth consecutive day, the metropolis has logged less than 1,000 coronavirus infections. Last week, the financial capital had recorded more than 1,000 daily cases on two straight days. Significantly, the active COVID-19 tally has crossed the 6,000-mark due to widening gap between the new and recovered cases.
