Mumbai on Thursday reported 1,201 new coronavirus infections, highest since June 30, along with two deaths, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. On Wednesday the city had recorded 975 new infections and two pandemic-related deaths. The new cases in India's financial capital crossed the 1,000-mark for the first time after June 30 when 1,265 infections and one fatality had been reported. The cases had dipped steadily thereafter. The city's caseload rose to 11,35,680 on Thursday while the death toll reached 19,670, the BMC release said.

As many as 227 new cases of coronavirus have been detected in Maharashtra's Thane district, taking its tally of infections to 7,37,425, a health official said on Thursday. With the addition of the latest infections on Wednesday, the district currently has 1,606 active COVID-19 cases, he said. The death toll in the district remained unchanged at 11,938. India saw a single day rise of 12,608 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,42,98,864, while the active cases declined to 1,01,343, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday. The national death toll climbed to 5,27,206 with 72 fatalities, including 29 fatalities by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated. The active cases comprised 0.23 per cent of the total infections, as the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.58 per cent, the health ministry said. A decline of 3,715 cases was recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 3.48 per cent, and weekly at 4.20 per cent, according to the health ministry. Assam reported 174 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, as per the National Health Mission (NHM). The state's positivity rate decreased to 3.62 per cent as the new cases were detected after testing 4,808 samples, it said in a bulletin. Kamrup Metropolitan district, which primarily comprises Guwahati city, reported 26 fresh cases, followed by Dibrugarh where 16 cases were detected and Lakhimpur where 15 people tested positive. There are 2,976 active cases in the state at present. The toll remained at 8,026 with no new deaths reported in the last 24 hours. Assam has so far reported 7,43,222 cases. A total of 7,32,218 patients have recovered, including 185 people on Wednesday.
Mizoram reported 153 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, 69 less than the previous day, with the tally rising to 2,35,682, a health official said. The single-day positivity rate dipped to 18.19 per cent from 21 per cent on Wednesday as the fresh cases were detected from 809 sample tests, he said. According to the official, the death toll remained at 717 as no new fatality due to the infection was reported in the last 24 hours, he said. All the 11 districts of the state recorded fresh cases with Lunglei registering the highest at 42, followed by Aizawl (36) and Champhai (23), he said. Mizoram now has 750 active cases, while 2,34,215 people have recovered from the infection, including 177 on Wednesday. The discharge rate stood at 99.37 per cent, the official said. The state has tested more than 19.65 lakh samples for COVID-19 so far. Altogether 16,97,571 doses of vaccines have been administered to eligible beneficiaries till Wednesday, the official added.

Delhi recorded eight more Covid-related fatalities and 1,652 new cases on Wednesday even as the positivity rate came down below 10 per cent after more than a fortnight, according to data shared by the city health department. The positivity rate in Delhi declined to 9.92 percent on Wednesday. The capital had on Tuesday reported 917 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 19.20 per cent and three deaths due to the infection.
