China says it's been open and transparent over origin of Covid-19

China on Tuesday pushed back at renewed suggestions that the COVID-19 pandemic could have been the result of a lab leak, saying it has been open and transparent in the search for the virus' origins. Recently, the US Department of Energy assessed with low confidence that the pandemic that was first detected in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019 began with the leak of a virus from a lab. The report hasn't been made public and officials in Washington stressed that US agencies are not in agreement on the origin. China has shared the most data and research results on virus tracing and made important contributions to global virus tracing research", Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning Mao told reporters on Tuesday at a daily briefing. US officials and members of Congress have accused China of not been entirely cooperative with inquiries into the origin. A World Health Organisation expert group said last year that key pieces of data to explain how the pandemic began were st

China says it has been 'open and transparent' on Covid-19 origins

China on Tuesday said it has been open and transparent in the search for the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic and dismissed U.S. criticism as politicising the issue. China had shared the most data and research results on virus tracing and made important contributions to global virus tracing research," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning Mao told reporters at a daily briefing. Politicising the issue of virus tracing will not smear China but will only damage the U.S.'s own credibility, Mao said, in response to complaints from U.S. officials and members of Congress that China has not been entirely cooperative. Her comments came amid continuing questions about how the virus that has killed more than 6.8 million people worldwide first emerged. Most recently, the U.S. Department of Energy assessed with low confidence that the pandemic that was first detected in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019 began with the leak of a virus from a lab. No definitive conclusion on Covid-19 origin theory, says White House

There is no definitive conclusion on the origin of COVID19, the White House said on Monday. "The intelligence community and the rest of the government is still looking at this. There's not been a definitive conclusion, so it's difficult for me to say, nor should I feel like I should have to defend press reporting about a possible preliminary indication here," National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby told reporters at a daily White House news conference. Kirby was responding to questions on the findings of the Department of Energy that a lab leak most likely caused the COVID19 pandemic, which was first reported in The Wall Street Journal over the weekend. "What the President wants is facts. He wants the whole government designed to go get those facts, and that's what we're doing. And we're just not there yet. And when we're there yet and if we have something that is ready to be briefed to the American people and the Congress, then we're going to d
