Delhi government is committed to ensuring quality education for every child in the national capital, and the recently-passed Bill to regulate fees in private schools will bring greater transparency and accountability in the institutions, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Saturday. Addressing a press conference, Gupta said the Delhi School Education (Fee Determination and Transparency in Regulation) Bill, 2025, which was passed in Delhi Assembly on Friday, seeks to prevent arbitrary fee hikes and make private schools accessible to children from all sections of society, including those from underprivileged backgrounds. Delhi govt abolishes NOC, land status report requirements in most cases

The Delhi government has abolished the mandatory requirements for no objection certificate (NOC) and land status report (LSR) for most land registration cases, officials said on Thursday. The move is aimed at enhancing ease of living and ease of doing business, officials said. Under the new system, NOCs and LSRs will now be required only in specific cases governed by legal provisions -- namely Section 8 of the Delhi Lands (Restrictions on Transfer) Act, 1972, and Section 30 of the East Punjab Holdings (Consolidation and Prevention of Fragmentation) Act, 1948, an official statement said. In all other instances, permissions from the revenue department will no longer be necessary. Sub-registrars will register documents strictly in accordance with the Indian Registration Act, 1908, only on legally prescribed grounds, the statement said. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday wielded a broom to kick off the Delhi government's month-long cleanliness drive 'Dilli Ko Kude Se Azaadi'. Improved land use, land parcel consolidation to increase floor space availability, infra upgrade and drone survey to identify land for relocation of industries are some of the measures proposed for redevelopment of industrial areas, by the new industrial policy being firmed up by the Delhi government. A draft of Delhi Industrial Policy for the next 10 years has been put in public domain by the government for getting stakeholders' feedback on it till July 30. Delhi's Industries minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the new industrial policy, which is likely to be finalised in next 2-3 months, will give a new lease of life to industrial development in the city. Delhi may scrap MCD health trade licence rule for opening new eateries

In a measure to boost the hospitality sector in the national capital, the Delhi government is likely to soon do away with the requirement of obtaining a health trade licence from the civic body for opening restaurants and eateries in the city. Lt Governor V K Saxena, speaking at the "Expresso" event hosted by The Indian Express on Friday, said the requirement of the license for opening restaurants in the city is being abolished. No immediate reaction from the Delhi government or the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was available on the development. Recently, the Delhi government did away with the need to obtain 'Eating House Registration and Lodging Certificate' from the police by hotels, clubs, restaurants and guest houses for getting a license to serve liquor. The Delhi government will launch a month-long cleanliness campaign from August 1, with active participation from schools, resident welfare associations (RWAs), and community groups, Education Minister Ashish Sood said. According to a statement, the preparations for the large-scale campaign were reviewed during a high-level meeting chaired by Sood at the secretariat on Friday. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday announced that her government would soon provide free bus travel cards to all women of the city with an aim to empower them with mobility. Saheli Smart Card, a personalised travel pass carrying the holder's name and photo, will facilitate free rides to women and transgender residents of Delhi aged 12 and above on all DTC and Cluster buses. Laying the foundation stone for a fully automated vehicle testing station (ATS) at the DTC's Nand Nagri Depot, the chief minister said, "This is a symbol of a safer, more transparent, and women-friendly Delhi." Delhi govt notifies new rules to protect rights of transgender persons

The Delhi government has notified rules for the protection of transgenders' rights, paving the way for the issuance of identity cards to them and forming a welfare board to ensure their well-being, officials said on Wednesday. A recent notification issued by the Social Welfare Department of the government said that in exercise of powers conferred on him, Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena has made the Delhi Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Rules, 2025. The district magistrates (DMs) concerned will issue a certificate of identity for a transgender person within 30 days of receipt of a duly filled-in application, said the notification. Crime in Delhi down by 8.4%, decline of 10% in rape and Pocso cases

With a 10 per cent decline in rape and POSCO cases, the national capital saw an 8.38 per cent decline in the overall crime in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year, according to Delhi Police data. Marking a drop of about 10,000 cases, from January 1 to June 30, 2025, a total of 1,18,822 cases were registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Indian Penal Code (IPC), compared to 1,29,693 cases in the same period of 2024, the data showed. Heinous crimes such as murder, rape, robbery and kidnapping fell by 13.13 per cent compared to 2023 and 10.39 per cent in contrast to 2024, according to the data. The data showed cases of murder rose from 241 last year to 250 in 2025, whereas rape and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) cases declined by about 10 per cent. According to the data, crimes against women like molestation and eve-teasing also declined by nearly 11 per cent and 12.5 per cent, respectively. Snatching incidents fell by 25.97

Delhi government corporations sold about 16.96 crore liquor bottles in the first quarter of 2025-26, grossing over Rs 2,662 crore, officials said on Saturday. The figure was over 1 crore more than the number of liquor bottles sold during the same period last fiscal, they said. Delhi State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) recorded the highest sale of 5.29 crore bottles of different kinds of liquor from April to June, 2025. This was followed by sale of 5 crore bottles by Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC), 3.65 crore bottles by Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation (DSCSC) and 2.91 crore bottles by Delhi Consumer's Cooperative Wholesale Store (DCCWS), showed official figures. Delhi CM launches pilot project to shift overhead power cables underground

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday launched a pilot project to remove the overhead power lines and shift them underground at BH Block, Janta Flats Colony, in her Shalimar Bagh constituency. The project, with an outlay of Rs 8 crore, is expected to be completed in three months. Launching the product, Gupta said that it will change the face of the densely packed colony by freeing it from the web of overhead wires. The project will also ensure safe and uninterrupted electricity supply in all weather conditions, Power Minister Ashish Sood concurred. In the budget 2025-26, Gupta, who also helms the finance department, had announced that Rs 100 crore will be allocated to shift the overhead power cables in the city underground. According to Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited chief executive officer D Basak, nearly 10 kilometres of power lines will be laid underground.
