Internal matter, says MEA Bagchi on power struggle in Afghan embassy

As the Afghan embassy in Delhi reels under a power struggle after the Taliban appointed a diplomat to head the mission in place of the incumbent, India on Friday said it is an "internal matter" of the embassy. "From our perspective, this is an internal matter of the Afghan embassy and we hope that they would resolve it internally," External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said when asked about a question on the matter. Ambassador Farid Mamundzay Mamundzay, who was appointed by the previous Ashraf Ghani government, has been operating as the Afghan envoy even after the Taliban came to power in August 2021. However, the Taliban in April appointed Qadir Shah to head the mission. Shah has been working as a trade councillor at the Afghan embassy since 2020. When Mamundzay was on a visit abroad, Shah tried to take charge of the embassy as the charge d'affaires late last month, but his attempt was stalled by other diplomats at the mission, people familiar with the matter said.

Service delays on Delhi Metro's magenta line for 2 hrs due to signal issues

Services were delayed for over two hours on the Magenta Line of the Delhi Metro due to signalling issues on Wednesday, officials said. The Magenta Line connects Janakpuri West in Delhi and Botanical Garden in Noida. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) also tweeted to alert commuters regarding the same. "Magenta Line Update Delay in services from Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden. Normal service on all other lines," it tweeted around 8 am. The DMRC, in a statement, said there was an "intermittent signaling issue" on the section between Terminal-1 IGI Airport and Sadar Bazar Cantonment Metro stations of the Magenta Line due to which trains were run at restricted speed between these two stations from 7:59 am to 10:30 am. This resulted into bunching of trains as they crossed this small section. During this period, services were regulated as per a plan to minimise the delay and inconvenience to passengers, officials said. Centralised announcements were made on frequent intervals

Delhi Police provides 'helicopter slithering' training to commandos

In view of the upcoming G20 Summit, Delhi Police gave training to its newly recruited commandos on 'helicopter slithering' at Delhi Police Academy in Jharoda Kalan, officials said on Tuesday. The training, which is a first of its kind by the police, was given to 55 male, 25 female and 15 SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) unit commandos, they said. The aim of the training is to ready the commandos for any potential evacuation during disasters or any terrorist incidents, police said, adding that the exercise was conducted using an M-17 Helicopter. The training was held in the presence of Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora and other senior officers of the force, and was assisted by the Border Security Force, they added. According to police, slithering from a helicopter is risky, not only to the commando carrying out the procedure from an airborne helicopter but also to the pilot. It is more dangerous and challenging compared to the slithering exercise from a building or a tree.
