Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi on Friday instructed officials for undertaking special drives for repair of civic-run hospitals, officials said. Denial of admission under EWS or Disadvantaged Group category by a school even after allotment by the authorities frustrates and undermines the noble objective of the law on right to education and violates the fundamental rights of children under the Constitution, the Delhi High Court has said. The court's observation came on a petition by a minor boy who sought a direction to a private school here to give him admission in the Economically Weaker Section (EWS)/ Disadvantaged Group (DG) category. The school's objection before the court was that the petitioner's residence was not within the 0-1 km radius and so he was not eligible for admission. Eight people sustained minor injuries in a stampede triggered by a fire at a slum cluster in outer Delhi's Sultanpuri, Delhi Fire Services officials said on Friday. Atul Garg, Director of the Delhi Fire Services, said a call about a fire was received at 12.13 am, following which 21 fire tenders were deployed. According to the fire department, 200 shanties were completely gutted in the fire. "Due to a stampede, eight people sustained minor injuries and they were administered first-aid," Garg said. Those injured were identified has Surajmal (72), Kapoor (50), Sagar (25), Pappu (55), Babloo (65), Kawar Singh (52), Raj Singh (72) and Chand (55), he added.

Delhi airport operator DIAL on Wednesday said facial recognition technology-based DigiYatra facility will be available for passengers at all entry and boarding gates of Terminal 2 and 3 by the end of March. The DigiYatra facility at entry gates of Terminal 1 of the airport is likely to be operational from April. The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the national capital, operated by the Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), is the country's largest airport and has three terminals. In the first phase, the DigiYatra facility was introduced at three airports -- Delhi, Bengaluru and Varanasi -- on December 1, 2022. "At present, around 2,500 passengers are using DigiYatra at Delhi Airport's Terminal 3 every day. "After the installation of all the DigiYatra infrastructure at Terminal 3 and Terminal 2, around 40 per cent of the daily domestic travellers will be able to get seamless entry into the terminal, security check area, and boarding gates," DIAL said in a release. "We have purchased land located at Sector 22 in Rohini from Yogi Raj Promoters Pvt Ltd," Migsun Group MD Yash Miglani told reporters here. Migsun Group has entered into a share purchase agreement with Yogi Raj Promoters, which owns this 9-acre land parcel, he added. Food delivery apps Swiggy and Zomato have complained to the Delhi government against challans being issued to their two-wheeler riders in the name of a ban on bike taxi services in the national capital. The food delivery platforms have also sought clarification from the government on the directive while claiming that there has been misinterpretation of the notice as the ban is applicable on bike taxi service providers. Swiggy in a letter to the government has said that food delivery riders are being fined up to Rs 15,000 in the garb of the ban on bike taxi services. "The recent changes in regulations on bike taxi services in Delhi have caused confusion and disruption to food/quick commerce delivery aggregators. Our delivery executives are being wrongly issued challans despite the notification being applicable only to bike taxi service providers," a Swiggy spokesperson told PTI. The city registered a high of 32.1 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, at the Safdarjung observatory, the national capital's primary weather station. It was seven notches above normal. According to data shared by officials, the city had registered an average maximum temperature of 27.9 degrees Celsius in February at Safdarjung station in 1960. The corresponding figure in 2006 stood at 29.7 degrees Celsius and the reading for the year 2023 stands at 27.7 degrees Celsius, as per the data shared.
