Delhi gets 1st electric gramin sewa vehicle as part of green mobility push

In a step towards promoting environmentally friendly transportation, the first electric Gramin Sewa vehicle was officially registered in the national capital on Tuesday. The new vehicle, designed for last-mile connectivity, has a seating capacity of six passengers plus a driver. Gramin Sewa, launched in 2011, is a para-transit system operating high-capacity three-wheelers in rural areas, unauthorized resettlement colonies, and JJ clusters. These vehicles play a crucial role in providing affordable transport to Delhi's underserved regions. The Delhi government has mandated the replacement of all CNG-powered Gramin Sewa vehicles, originally registered under the 2010-11 scheme, with electric variants. This move is part of a broader strategy to reduce pollution and promote clean mobility. Chandu Chaurasia, President of Delhi's Gramin Sewa Union, expressed enthusiasm over the milestone and said, "The registration of the first six-plus-one electric Gramin Sewa vehicle in Delhi is a matter

Mann slams Oppn for 'spreading rumours' that Kejriwal wants to be Punjab CM

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday slammed the opposition parties for "spreading rumours" that AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal wanted to become the chief minister of the border state following the party's rout in the Delhi Assembly polls. "Is it possible?" Mann questioned when he was asked that the opposition party leaders claimed that Kejriwal would be the next chief minister of Punjab. "They (the opposition) say whatever comes to their mind. They earlier had said so," said Mann while speaking to reporters in Sardulgarh. They only spread rumours, alleged Mann as he slammed the rival party leaders. Following the debacle in the Delhi assembly elections, Kejriwal had met Mann, state ministers, and party MLAs in Delhi on February 11. Several opposition party leaders had targeted Kejriwal for calling the meeting of Punjab MLAs.

Viral video shows people jumping over metro exit gates, DMRC clarifies

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on Saturday said it has taken cognisance of a viral video showing people jumping over automated fare collection gates at the Jama Masjid metro station and was in touch with police to file an FIR. The incident took place on the Violet Line of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on February 13. "There was a temporary surge in the number of passengers for a brief period on Thursday evening when some of them bypassed the AFC gates by jumping over them to exit," said Anuj Dayal, the DMRC's principal executive director (corporate communications). Security personnel and other staffers were present in adequate numbers to counsel the passengers and the situation was never out of control, he said, adding it was a momentary reaction by some passengers due to a sudden surge near the AFC gates. Will ensure MCD areas become as clean, beautiful as NDMC zones: LG Saxena

Delhiites have chosen a new leadership for change, and this transformation will positively impact both the city and its people, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena said on Friday. Speaking at the 'Samvaad with Swachhta Sainiks' event here, he said while some areas, particularly those under the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), are well-maintained, others require significant improvement. We will ensure that MCD areas also become as clean and beautiful as NDMC zones, he said. The LG highlighted that keeping Delhi is primarily the responsibility of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), which has a workforce of 50,000 sanitation workers. Saxena praised sanitation workers for their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Yamuna floods, and the G20 beautification drive. He also urged citizens to also play an active role. When we see potholes and garbage in the capital, it raises concerns about whether we are truly representing the country's capital, he added.
