A 28-year-old labourer died after he fell off the 20th floor of an under-construction building in suburban Malad, police said today. The incident occurred yesterday when Abu Tahir was doing a plastering work on the 20th floor of the high-rise in Malwani area, said a police official. Tahir was rushed to a hospital by locals where doctors declared him brought dead. A case was registered under section 304 (A) (causing death due to negligence) against two persons for not ensuring safety of the labourer, he said, adding that further investigation is on.

An auto driver was killed in a road accident involving a vehicle driven by a businessman near Safadarjang hospital, police said today. The accused -- Satvik Pathak (26) was arrested later, they said. A police team rushed to the spot after they received a PCR call about the accident late night yesterday. The policemen found a damaged auto and rushed the auto driver, identified as Rohit (41), to Safdarjanj hospital where he was declared dead, DCP(south) Romil Baaniya said. Police found bumper and broken pieces of number plate of the vehicle that was involved in the accident. They traced and arrested the accused, the police officer said, adding it was not clear whether he was driving the vehicle under influence of alcohol at the time of incident. The body of the victim who lived at Mayur Vihar-I was handed over to his family members after post-mortem, the police officer said. Further investigation is underway, he added.
An earthquake of the magnitude 6.2 on the Richter scale has struck off Chile's central region.According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred about 34 miles (54 kilometers) southwest of Ovalle, Chile at 7:19 a.m. local time. Shiv Sena activists today ransacked the cabin of a toll plaza near Shinde village on Nashik-Pune highway demanding closure of the facility, police said. The protesters, led by MLAs Rajabhau Waje and Yogesh Gholap, placed burning tyres on road, resulting in traffic snarls on the busy highway. Residents of Shinde village also participated in the sit-in agitation, said a Nashikroad police station official. Gholap claimed that Sena leaders spoke with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari who has assured them of taking a decision on the demand to close down the toll plaza within a week. The agitation was withdrawn following the Union minister's assurance, he said.
The Mizoram government has issued a warning after a number of pigs have died during the past one month in some isolated places in the state, officials said today. Though the cause of the death of several pigs and piglets were yet to be determined, the state did not rule out the outbreak of either the Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) or the classical swine fever, an official of the state animal husbandry and veterinary department told PTI. He said that both diseases had stayed permanently in the state since no culling were conducted during the past outbreaks. The PRRS disease resulted in the death of more than 3,000 pigs and piglets in 2013 and more than 5,000 pigs and piglets in 2016.
Two children drowned in a swimming pool in railway's DRM complex here, the police said today. Deepanshu (13) and Sumit (12) had gone to the swimming pool along with their three friends yesterday afternoon. As soon as they jumped into the poll, Deepanshu and Sumit drowned while the other three swam to safety, they said. After getting information about the incident, divers were deployed and one of the bodies were fished out. The other body could be recovered in the midnight only after the water of the pool was pumped out, the police said.
Bara [Nepal], April 10 (ANI): A 45-year-old Indian national, identified as Ram Sanehi, has died in an industrial accident at the Reliance Sugar factory in Bara, Southern Nepal."Ram Sanehi died in the blast of the molasses tank in the factory. Another nine workers have been seriously injured in the accident. Four members of a family travelling on a scooter were killed when a truck hit their vehicle near here today, police said. All four were on their way to a temple when the truck crashed into their two-wheeler on Seoni Road, 10km from the district headquarters, they said. They died on the spot, an official said, adding the victims were local residents. The deceased included a 35-year-old man, identified only as Gollu, his wife Dipika (30) and their daughter Ranu (8). The fourth deceased was identified as Kakie Bai (45), the mother of Dipika, Kundipura police station inspector Ratnesh Mishra said. The truck driver fled the mishap spot along with his vehicle, Mishra said. Police have registered a case and launched a search for the truck driver, he added.
