The traffic on Delhi-Kanpur railway line disrupted after Bhagalpur bound Vikramshila Express reported a cattle run-over.
The Patna-bound Vikramshila Express was stranded for nearly three hours between Tundla and Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh after it ran over cattle, the railways said Monday. The incident took place between the Kanchausi and Jhinjak railway stations, a spokesperson of the railways said. "Cattle being run over is a huge problem in this section and it happens almost everyday. "The incident took place at 8 pm and the section was cleared for traffic in an hour. Some trains have been delayed due to this. The Vikramshila Express' locomotive had been changed and it will be on its way any minute now," he said. The brake system of the train was damaged in the incident, the spokesperson said.

Ten days after cyclone 'Fani' ravaged coastal Odisha, an inter-ministerial Central team Monday began field assessment of the damage done by the storm, even as people continued to struggle for basic needs like food, water and power in the worst-hit Puri and Khurda districts. Over 5 lakh houses were damaged and 1.65 crore people were affected by the cyclonic storm that left 46 people dead in the state. The 11-member Central team is being led by Vivek Bhardwaj, additional secretary in the Home Ministry. The team, which was split into two units, met people in Brahmagiri, Kanas and other areas of Puri district and some parts of Khurda district. The Madras High Court's Madurai bench on Monday enhanced by nearly four times the compensation awarded by a tribunal to the kin of a pregnant woman, who died in a road accident in 2010. Justice N Kirubakaran, while disposing of an appeal filed by Oriental Insurance Company Ltd, said the woman was six months pregnant when she died in a road accident in 2010 and the foetus should be considered a living person. The compensation was increased from Rs 5.34 lakh to nearly Rs 20 lakh. The woman's husband and their son, a minor, were to get a compensation of Rs 2.5 lakh towards the death of the unborn child. Besides the minor, whose mother had died when he was two years old, should be awarded Rs 2 lakh. In addition, Rs 1 lakh should be paid for the loss of love and affection for the child, enhancing the compensation of the Motor Vehicles Accident Tribunal for the same from Rs 10,000, the judge said. Once the flight made an emergency landing at the international airport, the team, after all securiy checks, got onto the plane and ensured the in-flight delivery of a baby girl. However, the umbilical cord was left intact, as the team could not carry the surgical blade necessary to sever the cord due to 'security restrictions,' a press release from Apollo Hospitals said here. The Election Commission Monday granted conditional permission for the Andhra Pradesh government to conduct a cabinet meet on Tuesday to discuss relief measures following the damage caused by Cyclone Fani recently, among others. An AirAsia plane to Delhi from Hyderabad with 174 passengers on board, on Monday developed hydraulic problem leading to a full emergency being declared at the airport but it landed safely, airport officials here said.An AirAsia spokesperson said that a precautionary landing of the plane was carried out successfully and the aircraft was taxied back to the apron where a detailed examination is being carried out."AirAsia (India) Limited reports that I5-719 operating from Hyderabad to New Delhi had a technical issue during descent.
