Karnataka: House collapses in Dharwad, 3 dead
Three people including two children died and two others were injured after a house collapsed at Yarguppi village, in Dharwad district of Karnataka early on Tuesday.The deceased have been identified as Yallavva Gadad (53), Jyoti Meti (9), and Shravani Radhai (4). The injured were admitted to the hospital.A case has been registered in Kundgol Police station and an investigation is underway.

Ex-Olympic cycling champion Samuel Sanchez banned
Spain's Samuel Sanchez, the 2008 Olympic road race champion, has been given a two-years back-dated ban after testing positive for human growth hormones in 2017. The International Cycling Union accepted Sanchez's explanation that a contaminated supplement was at the root of the problem but said Monday it was banning him until August 2019. The 41-year-old was sacked by his then team BMC at the time of the test, just ahead of the Vuelta a Espana 2017. Sanchez, who won five stages at the Vuelta over his career, is free to contest the decision.

Three people died and one sustained injuries after the roof of an under-construction building collapsed in Prithvipura area of Jodhpur on Monday night.District Collector Prakash Rajpurohit told ANI, "Four people were inside the house when the roof collapsed around 11 pm. The injured were immediately shifted to hospital. Three succumbed to injuries while one is undergoing treatment in hospital.""The detailed inquiry to ascertain the cause of collapse being done," he said.
4 ships subjected to sabotage operations near Fujairah: UAE
The United Arab Emirates on Monday announced that four commercial ships were subjected to sabotage operations near UAE territorial waters in the Gulf of Oman, east of Fujairah, as per an official press release.UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC) added that all necessary measures have been taken as investigations are ongoing in cooperation with local and international bodies.The Fujairah media office had earlier denied reports that a series of powerful explosions rocked the Port of Fujairah in the UAE on May 12. Beirut-based Al Mayadeen, which is viewed as a pro-Hezbollah broadcaster, had claimed that the Port of Fujairah was rocked by blasts earlier in the day.The MOFAIC also confirmed that there were no fatalities or injuries on board the affected vessels. Patna-bound train runs over cattle, stranded for 3 hrs in UP
The Patna-bound Vikramshila Express was stranded for nearly three hours between Tundla and Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh after it ran over cattle, the railways said Monday. The incident took place between the Kanchausi and Jhinjak railway stations, a spokesperson of the railways said. "Cattle being run over is a huge problem in this section and it happens almost everyday. "The incident took place at 8 pm and the section was cleared for traffic in an hour. Some trains have been delayed due to this. The Vikramshila Express' locomotive had been changed and it will be on its way any minute now," he said. The brake system of the train was damaged in the incident, the spokesperson said.

Many schools, colleges were damaged in cyclone 'Fani' in Odisha
A number of schools and colleges have been badly affected by cyclone Fani in the state and the government is taking all steps to ensure the situation returns to normalcy soon, said Sanjaya Singh, Secretary, Information and Public Relations, here on Monday."Many schools and colleges across 14 districts have suffered extensive damage due to cyclone Fani. Exams of the maximum number of institutions were postponed. NEET exams were also rescheduled to May 20 so that children going to give their exams do not face any troubles," he said."All colleges have been instructed to take care of the students who will come to give their exams. Central team starts assessment of damage caused by cyclone 'Fani'
Ten days after cyclone 'Fani' ravaged coastal Odisha, an inter-ministerial Central team Monday began field assessment of the damage done by the storm, even as people continued to struggle for basic needs like food, water and power in the worst-hit Puri and Khurda districts. Over 5 lakh houses were damaged and 1.65 crore people were affected by the cyclonic storm that left 46 people dead in the state. The 11-member Central team is being led by Vivek Bhardwaj, additional secretary in the Home Ministry. The team, which was split into two units, met people in Brahmagiri, Kanas and other areas of Puri district and some parts of Khurda district. Cyclone 'Fani', which hit the state on May 3, passed through the coastal region of Odisha with a wind speed of over 200 kmph. Cyclone Fani: EC gives permission to AP govt to hold Cabinet meeting on May 14
The Election Commission (EC) on Monday gave permission to Andhra Pradesh government to hold a Cabinet meeting in the wake of the damages caused due to cyclone Fani."Naidu has been at loggerheads with EC and Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh LV Subrahmanyam, who was appointed by the poll body last month," state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Gopal Krishna Dwivedi said in a statement."He has been questioning the EC as to why Andhra Pradesh government is being prevented from holding reviews and meetings in the wake of the cyclone. Following this, chief secretary LV Subrahmanyam went to the residence of Chief Minister and held discussions with him today noon. HC enhances compensation for kin of accident victim
The Madras High Court's Madurai bench on Monday enhanced by nearly four times the compensation awarded by a tribunal to the kin of a pregnant woman, who died in a road accident in 2010. Justice N Kirubakaran, while disposing of an appeal filed by Oriental Insurance Company Ltd, said the woman was six months pregnant when she died in a road accident in 2010 and the foetus should be considered a living person. The compensation was increased from Rs 5.34 lakh to nearly Rs 20 lakh. The woman's husband and their son, a minor, were to get a compensation of Rs 2.5 lakh towards the death of the unborn child. Besides the minor, whose mother had died when he was two years old, should be awarded Rs 2 lakh. In addition, Rs 1 lakh should be paid for the loss of love and affection for the child, enhancing the compensation of the Motor Vehicles Accident Tribunal for the same from Rs 10,000, the judge said. In-flight delivery of baby after plane makes emergency landing
An in-flight delivery of a baby was facilitated by a team of doctors here following an emergency call for medical attention to a woman in labour, Apollo Hospitals said Monday. Once the flight made an emergency landing at the international airport, the team, after all securiy checks, got onto the plane and ensured the in-flight delivery of a baby girl. However, the umbilical cord was left intact, as the team could not carry the surgical blade necessary to sever the cord due to 'security restrictions,' a press release from Apollo Hospitals said here. The incident took place on May 8 when the international flight had requested for emergency medical attention to a woman in labour pain, the release said. EC gives conditional nod for AP cabinet meeting on May 14
The Election Commission Monday granted conditional permission for the Andhra Pradesh government to conduct a cabinet meet on Tuesday to discuss relief measures following the damage caused by Cyclone Fani recently, among others. The Cabinet will discuss relief measures related to 'Fani', drinking water supply situation in the state, seasonal conditions, including drought, and employment situation, including MGNREGP, official sources said. While granting permission for the Cabinet meeting, the ECI, in a communiqu, said: "ECI has no objection regarding convening of meeting of Council of Ministers, subject to conditions that any new decisions or revision of rates or any outstanding payment will require permission of the Commission before implementation. Hyderabad-Delhi AirAsia flight develops hydraulic failure, all 174 passengers safe
An AirAsia plane to Delhi from Hyderabad with 174 passengers on board, on Monday developed hydraulic problem leading to a full emergency being declared at the airport but it landed safely, airport officials here said.An AirAsia spokesperson said that a precautionary landing of the plane was carried out successfully and the aircraft was taxied back to the apron where a detailed examination is being carried out."AirAsia (India) Limited reports that I5-719 operating from Hyderabad to New Delhi had a technical issue during descent.
