Stalin defends participation in NITI Aayog meet, slams Oppn's criticism

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has said his participation in the NITI Aayog meeting was considering deliberations over India's growth plans. He rejected accusations from opposition parties in this regard. Writing to party cadres on Sunday, Stalin said, as soon as the news of his participation in the NITI Aayog meeting on May 24 spread, political rivals were rattled and they began showing malice as usual. Such opponents derived happiness by posing questions on his non-participation in the NITI meeting held in previous years, he said. Also, they levelled allegations that he was meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in order to escape from the Enforcement Directorate's "action" following the central agency's searches in the state-run liquor corporation (TASMAC, Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation) premises in connection with an alleged scam, he said. No other party has been targeted by central agencies, including the CBI and ED, like the DMK. Still, the party is only legally

DMK will always be No 1; contest within Oppn for 2nd spot: Stalin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday said the competition among opposition parties is to "secure the second place" and the DMK we will always get to the "first place" and be the winner in elections. Addressing an Iftar event at Kolathur here, Stalin said although many parties hold Iftar events, they do not not "open their mouth when Muslims are harmed." Be it the Citizenship Amendment Act, the abrogation of Article 370 or anything that was detrimental to the interests of the minorities, "the first voice of opposition" always came from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). Even now, the DMK is continuously fighting against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, since August 2024, in both the Parliament and Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) and the Tamil Nadu Assembly has adopted a resolution urging the Centre to withdraw this Bill that "betrayed" the Muslims. Several Indian Muslim organisations, within the country, including Tamil Nadu, and several of them at a global level are ...

DMK-backed JAC tells Centre to extend delimitation freeze by 25 more years

Asserting that the proposed delimitation exercise based on population would not be "fair" to southern states, the DMK-led Joint Action Committee meeting on Saturday demanded that the Centre should extend the freeze on Parliamentary constituencies, based on the 1971 Census population, by another 25 years and decided to submit a joint representation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the ongoing Parliamentary session. A political consensus also emerged to fight against "population" as the yardstick to determine delimitation and it was resolved during the meeting, which was held to ensure "fair delimitation", not to lose representation for southern states. Politically, the meeting, which was attended by three chief ministers, a deputy CM and leaders of 14 parties including the BRS, BJD andD from six states in a show of solidarity on the issue, was a shot in the arm for Chief Minister M K Stalin and his party DMK, ahead of the Assembly election in Tamil Nadu next year. Cong, DMK protest in Lok Sabha over renewable project near Indo-Pak border

Opposition members, mainly from the Congress and the DMK, on Wednesday staged a protest in the Lok Sabha over clearance granted to a renewable energy project near the India-Pakistan border and staged a walk out after "not getting a satisfactory reply" from the government. Asking a supplementary during Question Hour, Manish Tewari of the Congress said national security and energy security have to go hand in hand. He claimed the mixed renewable energy project will run up to one kilometer of the International Border (IB) and noted that as per security protocol, any big infrastructure project should be at least 10 km away from the IB. He asked whether any relaxation was granted to the proposed project. The government asserted that nods and licences to any proposal are granted after obtaining clearances from the Centre, the state and relevant agencies. New and Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi said the government is keen to produce renewable energy in the country. He said cleara
