Raj varsity chairman, bouncers booked for manhandling students

Police have registered an offence against the chairman of a private university in Rajasthan, his bouncers and other staffers for allegedly assaulting and manhandling several students from Thane, an official said on Saturday. The incident had occurred on May 6 at the office of OPJS University chairman at Churu in Rajasthan, police said. Anil Prajapati (21), who is pursuing a diploma in pharmacy course from the university, has lodged a complaint against the chairman of OPJS University, Dr Joginder Singh, and others. As per the complaint, Prajapati and other students had taken admission for the pharmacy course in the university and attending classes in Deep Paramedical Organisation's NETT College at Kasarvadavali in Thane. Students of the Government Degree College on Friday held a protest in Udhampur over 'rising examination and re-evaluation fee' among other demands."The students are protesting against Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University to show their resentment towards the poor result of the second semester as well as indifferent attitude of management towards them," Pardeep Jamwal Abvp Udhampur said while speaking to media persons here. BIE announces schedule for first phase of admissions

The Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education, which recently came under flak for alleged goof-up in declaring the exam results,Friday announced the schedule of admissions for the first phase, into the two-year Intermediate for 2019-20 academic year. As per the schedule, issue of application forms and commencement of admissions in the first phase would start from May 21 and classes would commence from June 1, an official release said. Admissions in the first phase should be completed by July 1, it said. The schedule for the second phase of admissions would be communicated in due course, it added. Setback to 4 lakh contractual teachers in Bihar as SC refuses to regularise them

In a setback to nearly four lakh contractual teachers in Bihar, the Supreme Court Friday refused to regularise their services and set aside the Patna High Court ruling that they were eligible to get equal pay for equal work. A bench of Justices Abhay Manohar Sapre and U U Lalit allowed the plea of the Bihar government challenging the October 31, 2017 high court order and declined to treat contractual teachers at par with regular educators. The top court said the Bihar government was justified in having two different streams or cadres for teachers and there has been no violation of the rights of 'Niyojit' (contractual) teachers nor has there been any discrimination against them. It, however, raised concern over the emoluments made available to Niyojit teachers at the initial stage and suggested that the state may consider raising the scales of such teachers at least to the level suggested by the three-member committee. Telangana education department cautious over class X results

In the backdrop of the intermediate examination results triggering a major row, the school education department in Telangana is taking various precautions to ensure announcement of SSC exam results is a smooth affair. The results of SSC (secondary school certificate) public examinations held in March this year would be released on May 13, an official press release here said Friday. The department is taking precautions, including thorough check of the results and counselling for students and parents, a senior official told PTI. For example, if a student scores a zero, then it is thoroughly checked, he said. In another measure, pre-results and post-results counselling has been introduced, he said. Delhi HC issues notice to govt over denial of admission to students in govt schools

The Delhi High Court on Friday issued a notice to the Delhi government over a petition highlighting the mass scale denial of admission to students in government schools in Delhi.The petition filed by advocate Ashok Agarwal also challenged the validity of four circulars -- dated September 19, which had fixed the upper age limited, August 27, 2018, which had denied admission to students who had failed twice, February 27, 2019 and March 29, 2013, which had asked for the residence proof during the admission process -- of Directorate of Education (DoE).A division bench headed by Chief Justice Rajendra Menon, while posting the matter for hearing to July 8, sought a reply from the Delhi government over the validity of the circulars. Sack professor found guilty of plagiarism: Alphons to HRD minister

Union Tourism Minister K J Alphons has written to HRD minister Prakash Javadekar demanding action against Professor Neeraj Hatekar of the department of economics, Mumbai University over plagiarism charges against him. A probe committee of the University had last month found that Hatekar had copied substantial parts of his PhD thesis from his wife' Rajni Mathur's MPhil desertation. The University has sent the report to its Institutional Academic Integrity Panel for further action, officials said. A section of academicians had also written to the University Grants Commission last month demanding action against Hatekar. In a letter posted on social media after the enquiry panel found him guilty, Hatekar had said, "The university did not follow a set procedure in setting up the committee. Neither the documents presented by me to support my case were considered by the panel. This is all a set up to affect my promotion opportunities in a negative way." Kota jail starts basic education facility for female inmates

A basic education school has been started for 44 female prisoners of Kota central jail, an official said Friday. The on-campus teaching and learning facility was started on Thursday to help the inmates with their courses and to enable them to study further, the official said. Several female prisoners here are enrolled into secondary, higher secondary courses affiliated to NCERT and few of them are also doing IGNOU courses, Kota jail superintendent Suman Maliwal said. This on-campus teaching will help the prisoners to understand and learn better, she added. The school will be managed and run by Sarvoday Education group, which will teach inmates of different educational levels and also those who are illiterates, she said. The females here are eager to learn and wish to resume their studies, Maliwal said. C'garh Class X, XII exams: Girls beat boys in pass percentage

The Class X and XII examination results were Friday declared by the Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education (CGBSE), with girls outshining boys in the overall pass percentage. Announcing the results, CGBSE chairperson and secretary of school education department Gaurav Dwivedi said the total pass percentage in the Class XII exams was 78.43 per cent while it was 68.20 per cent for the Class X exams. "In the Class XII exams, girls have recorded a pass percentage of 81.08 per cent, while 75.53 per cent of boys have passed. In the Class X exams, 70.77 per cent girls passed while this figure for boys stood at 65.25 per cent," Dwivedi said. As many 2,62,492 students were registered for CGBSE Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination (12th) this year, but only 2,60,521 students, comprising 1,24,370 boys and 1,36,151 girls, appeared, he said, adding that results of 2,59,944 students were declared, of which 2,03,893 (78.43 pc) passed. The Supreme Court (SC) refused to regularise at least 3.5 lakh contractual teachers in Bihar on Friday.The SC set aside Patna High Court's order that had ruled 'equal pay for equal work' for nearly 3.5 lakh contractual teachers working at the government schools in Bihar.This comes in response to Bihar government's plea challenging Patna High Court's order, which had ruled that contractual teachers in government schools were entitled to salary on a par with regular permanent teachers working in various government schools in Bihar.However, the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government had filed a petition in the apex court against the High Court's decision.Around 3.5 lakh teachers, who were hired on consolidated pay, demanded equal pay for work, stating that they should also be given all the benefits similar to the regular teachers as they had the same educational qualifications.
