Maha varsities to get Lokpal for students' grievances: Tawde

The Maharashtra government will appoint a lokpal in all universities in the state, except its agricultural universities, to resolve student grievances, state minister Vinod Tawde said Saturday. The Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education minister said the appointment of the students' ombudsman would be made in the "next two to three months". The lokpal shall be a person related to the university and someone not below the rank of retired district judge or a retired vice-chancellor, registrar, professor or principal, Tawde said. Tawde said Maharashtra would be the first state in the country to have such a lokpal for universities, adding that grievance cells would be set up in each degree college headed by the respective principals. "If a student lodges a complaint, the cell would take cognisance. Odisha suspends 3 teachers for question paper "leak"

The Odisha government Saturday suspended three teachers in Kalahandi district after purported images of the Mathematics question paper of the ongoing matriculation examination surfaced on social media. Earlier, the question papers of Odia, Hindi and English subjects went viral on social media, putting the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha, in a tight spot. Admitting the "leakages", the board authorities suspended three teachers in Kalahandi district. "We learnt about it midway into the days examination and found that the photographs of the question papers were taken on a smartphone from an examination centre located in Kalahandi district. Cambrige Assessment English Saturday said it has set up listening practice sessions all over the country for students to get an opportunity to learn, use and evaluate different English learning and listening strategies. U'khand CM lays foundation stone for central law varsity

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Saturday laid the foundation stone for a central law university at Ranipokhri near here, saying it was another step towards making the state a hub of higher education. "It is a matter of pride for Uttarakhand that it has been gifted with a central law university. It shows the importance being attached to the state by Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Rawat said at the ceremony. "Uttarakhand already has institutions like the IIT, IIM and AIIMS. The gift of a central law university from the prime minister will be another feather in its cap which will help the state become a hub of higher education," he said. Guest teachers of Delhi govt schools protest outside Sisodia's residence for 2nd day

Several guest teachers of Delhi government schools, whose contract ended on February 28, Saturday protested outside Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia's residence here for the second consecutive day. As many as 25,000 teachers are staring at uncertainty as their contracts ended on February 28. They have not yet been informed whether their services have been terminated or their contracts will be renewed. Shoaib Rana, member of All India Guest Teachers' Association, said over 5,000 teachers took part in the protest and that the agitation will continue till they were regularised. Braving rains, the protesting teachers stayed put in front of the deputy CM's residence. Angry villagers pelt stones at school bus after it hits goat

Nine students were injured as villagers pelted stones at a school bus after it ran over a goat in Indore district Saturday. The incident took place at Qazi Palasiya village. A goat was crushed under the bus' wheels as its brakes failed, said a police official. A group of angry villagers had a heated exchange with the driver and pelted stones. Nine students sustained minor injuries and were admitted to the Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital here, he said. They were discharged after treatment, said hospital superintendent P S Thakur. Guj: PM to attend two temple functions of Patidars on Mar 4-5

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will Tuesday participate in a function to consecrate the idol of Goddess Annapurna at a newly-built temple at Adalaj in Gandhinagar, functionaries of the Sri Annapurnadham Trust said. Guest teachers of Delhi govt schools protest outside Manish Sisodia's residence over contract

Several guest teachers of Delhi government schools, whose contract ended on February 28, protested outside Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia's residence on Friday. Boy's drowning in school: Army sets up Fact Finding Board

The Army has constituted a Fact Finding Board into the death of a 5-year-old boy with special needs at a school run under the aegis of its Eastern Command, a Defence communique said Friday. The Board would give its recommendations about putting in place effective measures to obviate recurrence of such incidents, said the communique issued nine days after the boy drowned in a hydrotherapy pool at the school on February 20. Hydrotherapy, or water therapy, is the use of water - hot, cold, steam, or ice - to relieve discomfort and promote physical well-being. "The management and the Army express deepest condolences to the parents and relatives of the child," the communique said.
