40 new degree colleges to come up in J&K

Forty new degree colleges will be opened across the state in a phased manner, the Jammu and Kashmir State Administrative Council (SAC) said Wednesday. The decision to open the new colleges was taken at a meeting of the SAC chaired by Governor Satya Pal Malik. The new colleges would include the 26 degree colleges already sanctioned, an official spokesperson said. Acknowledging the need for more colleges to provide access to hitherto deprived sections of the society, the SAC has decided to constitute a committee to finalise the phasing of the sanctioned colleges, he said. The committee will examine the feasibility of likely locations, keeping in view the prescribed norms, besides factors like enrolment, student-teacher ratio, faculty deployment, geographical conditions and financial requirement, the official said. Based on the recommendations of the committee, the Higher Education Department will seek approval for operationalisation of the sanctioned and the new colleges, he added. The .

UP madrasa teachers hit the streets over non-payment of salaries

On Teachers' Day, hundreds of 'madrasa' teachers in Uttar Pradesh protested over non-payment of pending salaries for the last 30 months. Hundreds of teachers gathered at Parliament Street here Wednesday and demanded that their pending salaries be paid. At least 25,000 teachers have not been paid salary by the central government, they alleged. In a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the religious school teachers raised concerns over non-payment of salaries for the last 30 months. "We are not being paid because we are teaching at madrasas. Chenab Valley youth festival begins in JK's Bhadarwah

A five-day mega Chenab Valley youth festival began here with over 1100 college students and teachers from all the three regions of Jammu and Kashmir coming together to showcase their talent. No student should fail in ITIs, says Pradhan

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Wednesday said no student enrolled in industrial training institutes (ITIs) should fail as it is a "de-motivation" for students coming from diverse societal backgrounds. Addressing a conference here on Teachers' Day, the skill development and entrepreneurship minister suggested that ITI students should be graded according to their performance but nobody should fail. "We were reviewing yesterday, it is my suggestion that nobody should fail in ITIs, somebody should get Grade A, somebody should get Grade E but nobody should fail. "This is a de-motivation.
