Electric two-wheeler maker WardWizard Innovations and Mobility on Friday said its sales surged over two-fold to 7,123 units in November this year as compared with the same month last year. The company, which sells Joy e-bike, had sold 3,290 units in November last year. Last month's sales number is the company's best-ever monthly performance till date. "With improved supply chain and consistent market expansion, we have been able to reach maximum customers, achieving another sales milestone. Our robust product portfolio and market presence have supported us to add new customers to the family," WardWizard Innovations & Mobility Chairman & Managing Director Yatin Gupte said in a statement. As customer purchasing sentiments are inclining towards electric vehicles to meet their daily mobility needs, the company is confident of carrying the same sales momentum in the coming months, he added.

The government is working on developing electric highways powered by solar energy, that will facilitate the charging of heavy duty trucks and buses, Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari said on Monday. Addressing an event organised by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC), Gadkari reiterated that the government wants to develop India's public transport system on electricity. "The government is strongly encouraging solar and wind energy-based charging mechanisms for electric mobility. "We are also working on developing electric highways, which will be powered by solar energy and this will facilitate charging of heavy duty trucks and buses while running," he said. An electric highway generally refers to a road which supplies power to vehicles travelling on it, including through overhead power lines. HOP Electric Mobility plans to invest up to Rs 200 crore in next one year on new products, setting up charging infrastructure and in creating additional production capacity, according to company Founder & CEO Ketan Mehta. The startup, which on Monday launched its high-speed electric-motorcycle HOP OXO with prices starting at Rs 1.25 lakh, is also setting up an electric vehicle park at Neemrana in Rajasthan, jointly with its component suppliers. "Cumulatively, till now we've invested close to Rs 50 crore in this business and going forward we are ready to put in up to Rs 200 crore in less than next 12 months," Mehta told PTI. The fresh investments will go into setting up of charging network for the company's products, which will later be opened up to other brands. The investments will also be used on new products, including upgrading of HOP's low-speed electric scooters to high speed, besides the EV park which will also have a new production unit, he added.
